Telangana Police seizes Rs 104 Crores worth of contraband drugs, liquor cash since MCC came into force

To conduct the elections in a transparent manner without letting the voters be allured, the Telangana Police has seized Rs 104 crore worth of contraband drugs, and liquor cash after the Model Code of Conduct came into force from March 16

Telangana Police have reported a significant seizure of cash, liquor, precious metals, narcotic drugs, and freebies, amounting to a total value of Rs 104 crores since the time the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force  from March 16 to April 28th, 2024

The Model Code of Conduct was enforced on March 16, 2024, in preparation for the upcoming Parliament Elections in Telangana State, scheduled for May 13, 2024. Under the guidelines provided by the Election Commission of India, the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana directed the formation of 477 Flying Squad Teams (FSTs), 89 State Internal Border Check posts, and mobile parties comprising local police personnel. Additionally, starting from the date of notifications on April 18th, 2024, 464 Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) were also deployed to prevent illegal transportation of cash, metals, liquor, drugs, and freebies.

Details of the commodities and other things seized by the Telangana Police

During the enforcement period spanning from March 16 to April 28, 2024, law enforcement authorities conducted round-the-clock operations across the state, resulting in the seizure of the contraband items.

It was on March 13, 2024, that the Election Commission of India had announced the complete schedule related to the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. The elections are being held in seven phases in different parts of the country.
