Shillong: The residence of Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhlang Dhar was reportedly targeted in a suspected petrol bomb attack today. The incident, which occurred on April 26, saw unidentified individuals hurling a petrol bomb at the minister’s residence, causing it to land on the balcony.

Fortunately, no injuries or damages have been reported thus far. However, Deputy CM Dhar has taken swift action by filing an FIR regarding the incident. Police authorities have confirmed the occurrence, stating that the perpetrators threw the petrol bomb from the streets.

In response to the incident, Deputy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar issued a stern message, asserting that those involved in criminal activities will be held accountable under the law. He emphasised, “Anyone involved in crimes, we won’t spare anybody. Whoever does crime in the city or the whole, we will not spare anyone. That is very clear from the government side.”

Authorities are actively investigating the matter to apprehend the culprits behind the attack. More updates will follow as the investigation progresses.

Meanwhile, the discovery of a cache of ammunition used in anti-aircraft guns hidden within a forest in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills district has raised concerns about potential militant activity in the region. Acting on a tip-off, authorities seized four boxes containing a total of 340 rounds from the dense forest near Chibogre village on April 25.

It is suspected that a militant group may have concealed the ammunition in the forest, signalling a possible resurgence of militant activity in the area. This incident echoes a similar discovery made in the past, where ammunition of the same calibre was found in the hideouts of the now-disbanded Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) in the East Garo Hills district. The authorities are actively investigating the matter to ensure the safety and security of the region.
