Guwahati: A shocking incident took place in Garo Hills district in Assam-Meghalaya border where one minor girl was gang raped by a group of over 15 criminals and another girl was brutally molested by the gang. The incident took place at Gandhipara village near Garobadha in South West Garo Hills district on April 16. The brutal incident was reported to police on April 18 by the parents of the victims. Two minor boys were also beaten up by the gang. The Meghalaya police have been investigating the case, but the culprits are yet to be nabbed.

As per the report, four minor girls and boys went to visit the annual ‘Chenga Benga Mela’ in Gandhipara village in South West Garo Hill district of Meghalaya. The group of young boys and girls are from a nearby village. But on their way back home, a group of miscreants dragged them to an isolated place and gagged and raped one girl and brutally molestred another. The gang also beat up the minor boys accompanying the minor girls.

As per reports of  ‘India Today NE’, a FIR has been lodged by the parents of the victims families, where it is clearly mentioned that a group of over 15 Muslim miscreants raped and molestrated the minor girls.

The portal also reported that Superintendent of Police (SP) for South West Garo Hills (SWGH) Vikash Kumar said that the incident, which took place on April 16, was reported to the police two days later, on April 18. He informed me that the accused have not been identified yet. SP Kumar informed us that the four victims had been wrongfully confined at a location approximately 250 metres from the Chenga Benga Mela venue. It should be mentioned that the medical reports and statements from the victims confirmed that they were physically assaulted, brutally tortured, and one girl was gangraped. Sources revealed that some evidence might be lost because the victims bathed and cleaned their clothes.

Police sources confirmed that, as per the medical report and statement of one minor victim, she was physically harassed and abused. The medical report and statement of the second girl confirmed that she was gang-raped by the group of Muslim miscreants. The victims are now under the counselling and observation of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) as both the victims were under trauma and fear. Legal Rights Observatory, in a X post wrote, “Gut-wrenching news of gang rape by 25 Jihadis on 4 minor Hindu girls of Garo Hills, Meghalaya coming in. During annual Chenga Benga Mela on Assam-Meghalaya border; 4 minor Hindu girls abducted, gang raped in captivity n physically assaulted by Jihadis hailing from South Salmara- Mankachar dist bordering Bangladesh. Police complaint lodged at Garobadha PS but no arrests made so far!”

SP Kumar told India Today NE, “I cannot term the post as false, neither can I call it true as the probe is still underway. Although some of it may be true, the final report citing actual incidents will only come to light after arrests have been made and the investigation completed.” But the brutal incidents jolted the citizens if the Garo hills where two minor girls were raped, abused and physically assaulted by a group of over 15 suspected Muslim miscreants.
