Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest triggers global debate over foreign interference in Indian politics

The arrest of Arvind Kejariwal first evoked a comment by Germany and later by the US. Many questions are raised by unwarranted comments by both countries. Those who are following the social and political trajectory of Arvind Kejriwal are not surprised by the knee jerk reaction of both countries; he is an asset created by the US and apprehending the disturbance of plans of its toolkit designed for Bharat, the country is getting upset.

One has to understand the modus operandi of intelligence organisations of creation of assets in adversary as well as in friendly countries. While active assets are covert and underground, passive ones are overt and overground. We can discuss one example in this context; during the Cold War period, both KGB and CIA, intelligence agencies of the USSR and the USA respectively were fighting turf wars in Bharat like those played out in many other countries.

Vasili Mitrokhin, a former KGB operative wrote in his book about agents planted in the Bhartiya government by the Soviet spy agency. Obviously that can be classified as acts of creating active assets, however, the real success of the agencies lied in creation and nurturing of passive assets. If we recollect the events of post- independence decades of Bharat we find out that the Leftist political spectrum was divided in their loyalties towards the USSR and China. The sponsored trips of the Comrades to Moscow were part of packages offered by the KGB to buy political loyalties.

The Chinese supporting communist parties were controlling trade unions in Bharat and during the 1962 Sino-Bharat war, they instrumentalised strikes in east Bharat so that supplies to the Bhartiya troops fighting in the inhospitable heights of NEFA are impeded. There are incidents, reported as well as unreported, galore when the respective proxies acted on behalf of the CIA and the KGB.

In today’s context, normally people who keep track of geo-politics, think that to counter China’s ever increasing economic and strategic clout, the US’s diplomatic policy is gravitating towards Bharat. It is partially true. The US perceives Bharat as a customer base of 1.4 billion; its main thrust is in the areas of weapons, pharmaceuticals and agro products. From Bharat’s point of view, those products which can be produced and grown in India should not be imported.

The US not only emphasises exports of its own goods to Bharat but lobbies for sale of products of its allies like Canada also. For Example, the US tried hard for entry of its giant multi retailer Walmart into Bharat but had the Bhartiya government yielded to the pressure, millions of small retailers scattered throughout Bharat would have been rendered jobless owing to the ruthless policies of the multinational multi-retailers. Today, indigenous multi-retailers are evolving in Bharat but the process is of coexistence with small local retailers and grocers.

In the weapons segment too, US’s arm twisting tactics are not hidden; recently, the country wanted Bharat to buy its Patriot Air-defense system, whereas, to counter China, it had become essential to buy the S-400 of Russia because it had already sold it to China. Bharat obviously had to put its foot down. In the aftermath of the Ukraine war and subsequent sanctions on Russia by the west, petroleum prices had started shooting up; owing to more than 80 percent of its requirements being import based, Bharat could ill afford to buy it for more than the bandwidth of 50-60 dollars per barrel. Under the circumstances, US should have either ensured supplies to Bharat either from its own resources or its protege Arab countries around that bandwidth. It failed to do so and when Russia started supplies at the discounted rates, the US and its lackeys created hullabaloo and tried to arm twist Bharat.

In QUAD also Bharat has calibrated its role; tomorrow if China attacks Taiwan, the US owing to its existing treaties with the latter, will definitely supply weapons to it and in the worst scenario might have to send its troops also. None of the QUAD countries, namely the US, Japan and Australia share a land border with China whereas Bharat

shares a 3488 KM long border with it. Under the circumstances Bharat cannot afford to participate in any joint military expedition against China in the Indo-Pacific lest it snowballs on its own border stretching from Arunachal to Ladakh. However, the US, as the policy analysts point out, perceives QUAD as a full fledged military alliance rather than a diplomatic one and in case of China-Taiwan conflict would coerce Bharat to actively participate in it.

Few reasons why the US is creating problems for Bharat have been enumerated, and how the plan is executed, can be visualised through the template of Kejariwal. It is an interesting case of identifying, nurturing, and popularising a deep asset that can be used to manipulate a sovereign country’s policies in favour of one’s own country.

Arvind Kejriwal was an exceptionally bright student and that was the reason he could crack IIT-JEE and later IRS exams too. He started with a job in a private company and before he became Assistant Commissioner in Income tax after clearing the IRS exam, he remained for some time with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity. That is when he learned tricks of running NGOs and must have been spotted by the USA based Non profit organisations as a future asset. He floated quite a few NGOs in Bharat and routinely kept on receiving funds from Ford foundation and Rockfeller foundation of the USA. Motives of both the foundations, which have proven CIA links, can vey well be deciphered. He was bestowed upon Ramon Magasaysay award, instituted in a poor country Philippines, in the year 2006 to make him popular. And the time was ripe for his handlers to launch him in politics in Bharat.

When the USA had triggered anti-government protests in the name of Arab spring in Egypt and other Arab nations in the years 2010-201, in Bharat too in order to exploit huge anti-corruption sentiment, Lokpal movement was started by Anna Hazare, a crusader with proven social credentials. That was the time when news media was exhaustively reporting about 2G, CWG and Adarsh housing scams in Bharat. That precisely was the reason many patriotic organisations of Bharat supported the movement. Kejriwal and his associates saw an opportunity in it and occupied the center stage; he even resorted to a fast for enactment of the Lokpal bill.

Initially, Kejriwal declared that he will never join politics and will continue with his crusade in social spheres only; but his intentions were different. On learning that Kejriwal has formed a political outfit named Aam Admi Party, Anna the original protagonist, separated himself from the movement and the field was clear for Kejriwal to unroll second part of his plan. The conscientious anti-corruption campaigners like Kiran Bedi ( Former IPS), Kumar Biswas, Mayank Gandhi, Shazia Ilmi and few others were distanced from the movement and the entire narrative was hijacked by Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party.

Later, Kejriwal, in order to reinforce his upright public image, will make tall statements and would renege on them periodically. First of all he had announced that he will never enter into the political arena but he did. Then he swore upon his children that he will never have an alliance with the Congress party, but today he is fighting elections in unison with the said party. Then he made an announcement that he won’t travel in fancy cars and will always live in modest houses only. Today, he travels in upmarket cars and lives in a palatial house, construction of which is another case of impropriety and involves huge amounts of corruption.

He set his eyes on the small state of Delhi and pitched his party in the elections in which his craftily created anti-corruption image became tremendously useful. After the Aam Aadmi Party won the elections convincingly and he became Chief Minister of the said state, he started part three of his plan of installing himself as a leader of national stature. He embarked upon the formula of draining the exchequer by doling out freebies to the public and perpetuating an image of a Messiah. In the third world countries in general and Bharat in particular, masses are not concerned with the economics of the welfare schemes of the governments.

They get pleased by the free doles which they get from the rulers. Kejriwal initiated a programme of giving free electricity and water to that segment of the electorate which had mammoth voting power. One noteworthy point, is the previous Congress regime of Sheila Dixit had built a huge network of infra projects in the state of Delhi though all of them were mired in charges of corruption. Therefore, cleverly, Kejriwal did not spend much on building roads and flyovers and kept on splurging state funds on cultivating vote banks.

Next he chose to contest elections in other states of Bharat taking advantage of his welfare schemes. He chose smaller states like Goa and Uttarakhand. He even went to the extent of contesting Varanasi Loksabha polls against the formidable Narendra Modi because his next target was to catapult himself for the top executive post of Bharat. Fortunately, for this country he miserably lost both in Varanasi and in state polls of Goa as well as Uttarakhand.

His mentors in the west had another plan ready for him; Khalistani sleeper cells which were cultivated by the Anglo-Saxons in the US, UK, Canada and Australia were activated to support him in the ensuing assembly elections of Punjab state. Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, the self styled ideologue of Khalistan harboured by the US has recently released a video in which he has categorically stated that Aam Adami Party was prolifically funded by the Khalistani elements to fight elections in Punjab. After winning Punjab elections, Kejriwal wanted to implement agenda of his mentors but so far, at least on surface, has failed. Plan of the ISI of Pakistan and CIA to install Amritpal Singh to ignite Khalistani fire in Punjab has failed due to the diligence of the central agencies and proactive nationalist policies of central political leadership.

The Delhi model of freebies also is crumbling in Punjab because unlike Delhi, the former is highly revenue deficit state and the funds, at the disposal of his Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, are scarce. Already the masses have started getting disillusioned with his policies there.

As far as anti-corruption narrative of Kejriwal is concerned, chickens have started coming home to roost. In the state of Delhi, where excise revenue was Rs 3,000 crores plus from sale of liquor, he sacrificed government income to the tune of more than eighty percent and passed it on the liquor distributors as enhanced commission. No prizes for guessing that mammoth amount of kickbacks were negotiated with the distributors for the said largesse. The Enforcement directorate claims to have unearthed the entire route of origin and beneficiaries of the bribes given in the liquor scam. According to the agency, money was routed to Goa to fund elections there.

Ministers in Kejriwal’s cabinet of Delhi government namely, Satyendra Jain, Manish Sisodia are also behind the bars; Sanjay Singh another accused has recently secured bail. What will be the verdict of the courts, time only will tell but the grand plan of using a plank of propriety and probity to launch oneself on the national political scene and using corruption as a tool, has been thoroughly exposed.

The Kejriwal episode has left many questions for the people of Bharat. Keeping in view toolkits designed by the Western powers in general and the US in particular to interfere with the political landscape of other countries, many more attempts to cultivate such elements will remain unabated. The west itself was engaged in a slugfest with the communists from the times of Bolshevik to Glasnost. And knowing fully well the consequences of the leftist welfarism, the west assiduously keeps on creating ideologues in the countries whom it wants to arm twist to suit its own agenda. No doubt the Anglo- Saxons are master craftsmen of the fifth and sixth generation warfare. The US has made no bones about its support to Kejriwal and has issued statements in his favour. It is nothing but interference in Bharat’s judicial and democratic institutions. People of Bharat have to show political maturity that if someone in the garb of welfarist  ,jeopardizes national interests, he must be consigned to the political dustbin.
