Guwahati: In a scathing critique of the Congress party’s governance in the Northeastern region, Senior BJP leader Amit Shah has lambasted the opposition for what he perceives as a lack of commitment to the development and welfare of Assam. Addressing a fervent crowd in Lakhimpur, Assam, Union Home Minister Shah highlighted the BJP government’s efforts in curbing influx into the state, a longstanding concern for the region.

During his speech, Amit Shah presented voters with a stark choice ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, urging them to consider the track records of the two leading alliances. “You have two options,” Shah declared, “One is the INDI alliance under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, and on the other side, you have BJP under PM Narendra Modi’s leadership.” This binary, he emphasised, would determine not only the state’s representation in parliament but also its trajectory of development and governance.

Drawing attention to the BJP’s initiatives, Shah underscored the administration’s proactive measures in addressing critical issues such as influx control and cultural recognition. He reminded the audience of Singing legend Bhupen Hazarika’s posthumous award of the Bharat Ratna, bestowed during the BJP’s tenure, contrasting it with what he perceived as Congress’s neglect of Assam’s legends.

Home Minister Shah did not shy away from directly challenging Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning the party’s zero contributions to Assam. “I want to ask Rahul Baba, what have you done for Assam?” Home Minister Shah queried, highlighting the need for accountability and tangible results in the state’s progress.

Moreover, HM Shah accused the Congress of failing to fulfil its responsibilities towards Assam, particularly in terms of equitable development and justice for the northeastern state. He contrasted this with the BJP’s track record of mega-developments and transformative changes under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

In a show of strength and solidarity, Home Minister Amit Shah participated in a roadshow in Tinsukia town, campaigning for his cabinet colleague and former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal in the Dibrugarh parliamentary constituency. Thousands of BJP supporters, along with CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and party candidate Sarbananda Sonowal, as well as numerous BJP MLAs and leaders, joined the mega roadshow, underscoring the party’s unified front and determination ahead of the upcoming elections.

As the political landscape in Assam heats up,senior BJP leader Shah’s rallying cry serves as a stark reminder of the choices facing voters and the stakes involved in shaping the future of the state. With the BJP emphasising its commitment to Assam’s development and asserting its track record of governance, the stage is set for a fiercely contested electoral battle in the region.
