Earthquake Jolts Himachal Pradesh: Chamba region rattled by by 5.3 magnitude quake

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck Chamba town in Himachal Pradesh on the evening of April 4. The tremors were felt not only in Chamba but also in Manali, located approximately 100 kilometers away. Fortunately, no major damage has been reported till now

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck Chamba town in Himachal Pradesh this evening, causing strong tremors that were felt not only in Chamba but also in Manali, located approximately 100 kilometers away. However, there have been no reports of major damage or casualties thus far.

The earthquake occurred at 9:34 pm, with its epicenter recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the National Center for Seismology. Residents in Chamba and surrounding areas experienced significant shaking, with reports of buildings swaying and belongings rattling. The tremors also reached Manali, where locals described feeling strong jolts lasting several seconds.

One of the residents of Manali, stated that he strongly felt the tremors, which, according to him, lasted for at least seven seconds.

Another resident of  Chandigarh, shared his experience and said that he felt the jolt for a long and as he was planning to rush down, the tremors stopped.  His account reflects the sudden and abrupt nature of the earthquake’s impact.

Authorities are currently assessing the situation and monitoring for any signs of damage or aftershocks. In the meantime, residents are advised to remain cautious and prepared for further seismic activity. The National Center for Seismology continues to provide updates on the situation, urging vigilance and readiness among the affected communities.

As investigations into the earthquake’s effects continue, residents and officials alike are reminded of the importance of earthquake preparedness and response measures to mitigate potential risks and ensure the safety of all individuals in affected areas.
