Days after Moscow witnessed a deadly terror attack that led to the death of 137 people, the French administration issued a high terror alert and increased security across the nation to the highest level. According to an international news media agency, the terror alert was issued on March 24, 2024 and the French PM Gabriel Attal announced the decision on social media platform X.

As per reports, the announcement from the French PM came after French premier after the nations president Emmanuel Macron held an emergency security meeting which was prompted by the terror attack in Moscow.

‘Following the attack on Moscow, a Defence and National Security Council was convened this evening at the Elysee by the president of the Republic, Attal wrote on X. “Given the Islamic States claim of responsibility for the attack and threats weighing on or country, we have decided to raise the Vigipirates posture to its highest level: attack emergency,” he added.

Frances’s terror alert system operates with three levels, with the highest level activated in response to an attack within France or abroad or where there is an imminent threat of one. This heightened alert status enables the implementation of extra-ordinary security measures including increased patrols by the armed forces at public locations such as train stations, airports, and places of worship.

It is pertinent to note that France has been repeatedly hit by the deadly Islamic attacks, including Bataclan theatre massacre that took place in 2015. France was always on high security alert and ahead of the Paris Olympics and Paralympics this year.

Since the international event is expected to draw millions from around the world. In light of this, the Security concerns are notably high fort the exceptional will involve boats riding along thr Seine River and huge crowds watching from embankments. In the past, the French troops have also fought against the Islamic extremists in Middle East and Africa.

Meanwhile, thousands of people in Russia lined up on March 24, 2024, to place flowers outside the Crocus City Hall near Moscow. The Russian nationals arrived at doomed site to honour those killed in attack Not only this, the members of the clergy also paid their respects and initiated prayers which crowds joined in flags lowered to half-mast, an international media agency reported.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also paid his respects to the deceased by lighting a candle in a church at his Nova-Ogaryovo residence across Moscow.
