Tribal women hailing from separate corners of the State of Chhattisgarh interacted with President Draupadi Murmu during their maiden tour of the national capital on the occasion of International Women Day on Friday, March 8.

A total of 64 women belonging to special primitive tribe groups such as Kamar, Baiga, Birhor, and Pahadi Korba were earlier flown to Delhi from Raipur, where they had a brief interaction with the State’s Deputy Chief Minister (CM) Vijay Sharma.

Associated with the Self Help Groups (SHG) including the Flagship Lakhpati Didi Scheme, were flagged off by the Deputy CM Sharma from Raipur airport on Thursday.

“Those who had only seen the planes touching the sky have boarded the same planes for the first time, 64 women hailing from the special primitive tribes are flown to Delhi on the invitation of President Draupadi Murmu”, informed the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Office (CMO).

Upon arriving in the national capital, the group paid a visit to Amrit Udyan and expressed their delight over the overwhelming welcome. In a video pertaining to the visit, one of the women in the group can be heard expressing her astonishment and delight over boarding the flight for the first time.

We have been provided an opportunity to come here, and we also got an opportunity to board the flight to Delhi in between said an elated member of the group while witnessing the mesmerising beauty of the Amrit Udyan. Further the members of the SHG were also seen sloganeering “Naari Shakti Vandan Hai”.

Meanwhile, CM Vishnu Deo Sai, on the occasion of Women’s Day, also interacted with the women commandos of Bastar fighters and Danteshwari fighters, deployed in regions infested by insurgency.

The programme was organised at the Jawanga education city of Gidam in Dantewada district where the CM had a special discussion with the women personnel of counter-insurgency units.

Extending his wishes on Women’s Day, the CM after the programme lauded the courage and valour of these women commandos and asserted that it is my great fortune that I have come here to salute the courage of our sisters who have stood up to protect the society.

It must be noted, that the State has a significant population of tribals, the majority of whom reside in the unexplored terrains of Bastar and Surguja divisions. Significantly, after the sweeping victory of the Bhartiya Janata party in the tribal dominated regions of the State, the party had elected Vishnu Deo Sai as the first tribal (Vanvasi) Chief Minister of the State.

The move to appoint Vishnu Deo Sai as a CM marks the second such significant decision by the party towards installing people from the tribal community on significant posts as earlier the party had thrown its weight behind Draupadi Murmu, another woman from the community, for the prestigious post of president of Bharat.
