In another incident of targeted killing of political workers in Chhattisgarh, left-wing insurgents have reportedly killed a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Maoist affected Bijapur district on Wednesday, March 6.

After the abduction of the BJP leader, the Maoists allegedly took him to the nearby forest and shot him dead after interrogating him. The deceased BJP leader has been identified as Kailash Nag, a resident of Janlga police station limits of Bijapur, its been learned that the deceased party worker of the BJP was on the radar of the Maoists and had also received threats of insurgents in the past as well.
The incident occurred days after another BJP leader, identified as Tirupati Katlu, was stabbed to death by the extremist in the Toynar area of Bijapur on March 1, the Maoist attacked the BJP leader when he was returning from a wedding function.
Reacting to the killing of Tirupati, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, while offering his condolences to the family members of the deceased party leader had asserted that the battle against the Naxals is in a decisive juncture and his government will never allow the intentions of the extremists to succeed.

Days before the killing of Dubey, the Maoists had also killed a BJP worker of Mohala Manpur area.
Notably, political workers and leaders of prominent parties in the State faces a constant threat of the Ultras, who have been carrying out targeted killings of political workers at intervals. It is believed that the Maoists carry out such acts with the aim to spreading fear among the masses so that they do not align themselves with the democratic process.
