It must be noted that the killing of Nag marks it overall eight such incident in the last 13 months when the Maoists have targeted and killed a BJP functionary in the State of Chhattisgarh.
Earlier, in a series of targeted attacks on BJP workers, the extremists also killed 3 of the party workers in back-to-back attacks in February last year. The killing includes BJP Narayanpur vice president Saagar Sahu and BJP president of Usur block Neelkantha, who was hacked to death by the Maoists when the former had arrived at his ancestral village to attend a family function.
In another incident that occurred in November last year, a Small Action Team (SAT) team of the proscribed outfit had also killed the then BJP vice president of Narayanpur, Ratan Dubey. The Maoists carried out the attack when Dubey was campaigning in Kaushal Nagar area before the assembly elections. Days before the killing of Dubey, the Maoists had also killed a BJP worker of Mohala Manpur area.
Notably, political workers and leaders of prominent parties in the State faces a constant threat of the Ultras, who have been carrying out targeted killings of political workers at intervals. It is believed that the Maoists carry out such acts with the aim to spreading fear among the masses so that they do not align themselves with the democratic process.
