Armed cadres of the banned Maoist outfit abducted as many as four labourers indulged in construction work from Jagargunda area of insurgency-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, February 11, according to the reports in the media.
The reports suggest that the Maoists abducted a contractor, a JCB operator, along with two labourers working on a project about the Jal Jeevan Mission from Singaram village under Jagargunda police station limits of Sukma. The extremists also took along a JCB machine with them.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening, when armed cadres of the outlawed outfit barged at the construction site and took along the labourers with them. However, so far, no official confirmation has been made by the administration regarding the incident. It’s been learned that the family members of the abducted persons have also made an appeal to the Maoists to set the latter free.
The incident has occurred in the core Maoist zone of the Bastar division of Chattisgarh where the security forces have been trying to established its Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) to strengthen their positioning lately. The region has been infamous for frequent movement of extremists for decades and is considered their strongest bastion.
Additionally, the development works being carried out by the local administration with the help of security forces on a war footing in these remote regions have further frustrated the extremists who have been obstructing any such development projects in the region for a long.
It is to be noted that, of late, the security forces have intensified search operations in the Maoist-affected regions of Bastar Division, leading to significant success for the forces. Recently, in a similar search operation carried out by the forces, an active cadre of the banned Maoist outfit was arrested from Potnar village of Bijapur district.
The development occurred hours after a Maoist couple along with another seasoned Maoist carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh surrender before the forces in Bijapur district itself. The said Maoist was active as a member of the Maded Area Committee of the banned outfit while the couple were part of the Chetna Natya Mandali (CNM) of the Jagargunda Area committee of the extremists.
