Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 25th January inaugurated the High-Performance Sports Training and Rehabilitation Centre at Sarusajai Sports Complex

Under an MoU with Abhinav Futuristic Private Limited, Oil India Limited, and Numaligarh Refinery Limited, the Government of Assam spearheaded the establishment of two high-performance sports training and rehabilitation centres in Guwahati and Jorhat. These centres boast cutting-edge facilities, including biomechanical and motion analysis labs, functional labs, gait labs, physiology labs, recovery labs, and rehabilitation labs.

The newly inaugurated High-Performance Sports Training and Rehabilitation Centre at Sarusajai Sports Complex in Assam signifies a transformative leap in sports development. Equipped with advanced facilities like biomechanical labs and recovery centres, it aims to elevate the physical prowess of emerging athletes. Complementing this, the Olympic Values Education Programme, launched concurrently, seeks to instill essential virtues in students, fostering a culture of sportsmanship. Together, they represent Assam’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of high-caliber athletes resonating with Olympic values.

Expressing the significance of this development, Chief Minister Sarma stated, “Today marks a pivotal day in the state’s sports landscape. These facilities will empower the new generation of athletes, enhancing their physical endurance and fitness, propelling Assam as a prominent sports hub.”

CM Sarma extended gratitude to Olympian Abhinav Bindra for partnering with the government in creating these modern sports facilities. He emphasised Bindra’s enduring inspiration for young athletes and acknowledged the pivotal role played by Oil India Limited and Numaligarh Refinery Limited in supporting this initiative.

The Chief Minister emphasised that these facilities, along with the Olympic Values Education Programme, will contribute to nurturing high-capacity sports personalities resonating with Olympic values, fostering sports development in the state.

Encouraging the sports community, Dr. Sarma urged them to utilise the state-of-the-art facilities in Guwahati and Jorhat. He highlighted the government’s commitment to sports, hosting events like Khelo India University Games and planning the National Games, among other initiatives.

In addition to the new facilities, CM Sarma outlined upcoming sports infrastructure projects, including multi-purpose stadiums in Amingaon and Chandrapur, a hostel with 500 accommodation facilities at Sarusajai Sports Complex, and further measures to be announced in the state’s upcoming budget.

Regarding the Olympic Values Education Programme, CM Sarma shared that it would be implemented in collaboration with the Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage and the Abhinav Bindra Foundation Trust. The programme aims to address challenges like sedentary lifestyles and other issues faced by youth and athletes, with a focus on schools.

The ceremony, organised by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, saw the presence of Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Nandit Gorlosa, MP Pabitra Margherita, MLA Atul Bora, Olympian Abhinav Bindra, and various other dignitaries.
