Amidst the ongoing efforts of the security forces to curb and contain the Maoist activities in the insurgency-hit regions of Chhattisgarh, as many as two lower-rungadres of the outlawed CPI Maoist have surrendered before the police in Kondagaon of Bastar.

The surrender occurred on Tuesday, January 23, when two Janmilitia members of the proscribed Maoist outfit turned up before the police and surrendered. The surrendered extremists have been identified as Sonu alias Ghasiya Kashyap and Ghina.

According to the information received, both the surrendered cadres were active within the Mardapal police station limits of Kondagaon. One of the surrendered cadres Sonu was a member of the Bemada ‘Jantana Sarkar’ (A parallel government of the extremist to look over administrative issues in the regions infested by the Maoist) while the other cadre was an active member of the Janmilitia group.

As many as two cases, including an encounter that occurred in 2014, have already been pending against one of the surrendered Maoists, Sonu Kashyap, while a case pertaining to looting of election materials in 2009 Lok Sabha election has been pending against Ghina, informed Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Naxal Operation Satish Bhargav.

Both the surrendered cadres have been inspired by the State government surrender and rehabilitation policy and they will be provided with an immediate financial aid of Rs 25000 each, as part of the State government surrender and rehabilitation policy, added ASP Bhargav.

Cooker Bomb unearthed and defused

In other news, a joint team of security personnel acting on a tip-off unearthed and diffused a cooker bomb in Daynaar village area of Kondagaon district on Tuesday, January 23.

According to the reports, the district police have received input about suspicious wiring near a culvert in Dayanaar village under the Beyanaar police station, following which a joint team of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and District Reserve Guard was rushed to the spot.

Upon arriving on the spot, the personnel then unearthed and diffused a cooker bomb planted by the extremists. the recovered bomb weighed around 10 kilogrammes, informed an official familiar with the development.

It is worth mentioning here that the security forces in recent times have amplified search operations and area domination exercise in the Maoist-infested areas of the State. The development occurred after the Vishnu Deo Sai led government gave a nod to launch offensive campaigns against the extremists after back-to-back incidents of IED explosions that had jolted the State right after the newly elected government assumed office.
