Assam: “Only Miya-Muslims will attend Rahul Gandhi’s rally, others express reluctance,” says Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: Taking a jibe at Congress party ‘Nyay Yatra’, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that only Miya-Muslims will be present at Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Assam. In a media interaction in Guwahati, CM Sarma expressed that other communities in the state are now reluctant to attend Congress party meetings, emphasising the BJP’s disinterest in seeking Miya-Muslim votes in Assam.

Responding to Congress’s allegations that the Assam government intentionally hindered Rahul Gandhi’s visit by distributing loan application forms among 39 lakhs women self-help groups (SHG) members, CM Sarma asserted that the dates were fixed before the announcement of Gandhi’s visit. He further showcased a gesture by cancelling his Upper Assam visit on January 18-19 to avoid clashing with Rahul Gandhi’s rally, ensuring a smooth functioning of the district administration.

CM Sarma questioned, “Where will he find such a large-hearted government?” while highlighting the development initiatives undertaken by the BJP government that have garnered support from the Muslim women. He pointed out that Muslim women, benefiting from schemes like Arunudoy, where they receive a monthly Rs. 1250, along with access to ration cards and government funds allocated to self-help groups (SHGs), now express a reluctance to attend Congress party meetings. CM Sarma noted that despite being well-wishers of the BJP, their husbands, for various reasons, prohibit them from casting their votes in favour of BJP.

Congress politicising Ram Mandir for Rahul-Sonia’s anti-Hindu nation

Addressing Rahul Gandhi’s allegations about the BJP politicising the Ram temple event, CM Sarma argued that it would have been an apolitical affair had Congress accepted the invitation. He accused the Congress party of boycotting the event and turning it into a political function, asserting that January 22nd would be remembered as a triumph of Indian civilization. However, he criticised the Congress party for transforming what could have been a simple religious function into a political event by choosing to boycott it. CM Sarma accused Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi of injecting an anti-Hindu notion into the narrative, thereby politicising the occasion. He underscored that the general sentiment revolves around reverence for the event rather than engaging in anti-Congress discussions, attributing the politicisation solely to the Congress party.
