Assam: JP Nadda Exposes Congress Legacy: Indira Gandhi ousted 56 govts, Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Nyay Yatra’ questioned

Guwahati: Unravelling the political dynamics, BJP National President JP Nadda slams Congress over its proposed Nyay Yatra, alleging a legacy of injustice. Accusing the Congress of toppling 90 state governments during its tenure, Nadda questions the credibility of their justice-focused campaign. Amidst historical controversies and hypothetical scenarios, this article delves into the unfolding political narrative, shedding light on Nadda’s sharp critique and setting the stage for a compelling exploration of the ongoing political discourse.

BJP National President JP Nadda took a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s proposed Nyay Yatra, alleging that the Congress, after perpetrating ‘Anyay’ (injustice) across the nation, is now advocating justice. Nadda specifically pointed to historical instances where Congress, under leaders like Indira Gandhi, dismissed elected state governments on numerous occasions, citing the misuse of Article 356 of the Indian Constitution.

President Nadda said, “Under Indira Gandhi’s leadership a remarkable 56 elected state governments were toppled, while Jawaharlal Nehru dismissed 9 administrations. Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure witnessed the toppling of 6 state governments, and Manmohan Singh navigated through 12 state government changes.

BJP President Nadda emphasised that during its tenure at the Centre, the Congress dismissed 90 state governments, abusing the constitutional provision. He recalled instances during Indira Gandhi’s leadership when the Congress dismissed the first elected left government in Kerala, highlighting the irony that even Jawaharlal Nehru did not favour it.

In a sharp critique, JP Nadda questioned the credibility of the Congress’s call for justice, especially in the context of the 1984 Sikh riots that occurred under the Congress government’s patronage, resulting in thousands of deaths. JP Nadda challenged Rahul Gandhi to address these historical injustices when he visited Assam during his Nyay Yatra.

He accused the Congress of hypocrisy, noting that while PM Modi granted constitutional status to OBCs, the Congress, which allegedly hindered Ambedkar from entering Parliament, is now organising a ‘Nyay Yatra’ after dismissing governments 90 times using Article 356.

During his three-day visit to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, Nadda visited the Maa Kamakhya temple, seeking blessings ahead of the 2024 general election. He addressed the state executive meeting of Pradesh BJP, participated in a road show, and attended core committee meetings. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP President Bhabesh Kalita, BJP’s NE coordinator Sambit Patra, and national VP Baijayant Panda were present at these events.

As the political discourse intensifies ahead of the 2024 general election, BJP president Nadda’s accusations raise pertinent questions about the Congress’s commitment to justice and its historical actions. The upcoming Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi could potentially be overshadowed by these pointed accusations, as the BJP seeks to highlight the Congress’s alleged legacy of injustice.
