During Christmas celebrations, Adeen Nasser was allegedly captured on video putting sunglasses on Mahatma Gandhi’s statue. In the video, his comment, “After all, he is dead,” is audible. The video, featuring this derogatory act, was subsequently shared on social media platforms.

ABVP Complaint and Police Action

Following the incident, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) promptly filed a complaint with the Edathala Police Station in Aluva. Subsequently, the police have taken swift action by registering a case against Adeen Nasser based on the formal complaint.

The act of disrespect towards the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, has raised concerns and garnered widespread condemnation. With the police registering a case against Nasser, he could potentially face legal consequences for his actions.

Social Media Backlash

The video’s circulation on social media has led to backlash and criticism from various quarters, emphasising the need for respectful behaviour towards historical figures and symbols.

Christmas Celebrations Context: It is noteworthy that the incident occurred within the context of Christmas celebrations, adding an element of shock and disapproval from the community.

ABVP Vigilance: The ABVP, known for its vigilance in matters related to student activism and campus decorum, has played a pivotal role in bringing attention to the alleged act of disrespect.

There are reports that the accused is the son of a public prosecutor.

BJP president K. Surendran came down heavily on SFI for insulting Mahatmaji. Later on workers of KSU (the Kerala Chapter of NSUI) complained too.

When the public opinion came up against the SFI leader, his organisation came forward with a statement, as expected, that he was removed from the organisational position a month before.

The SFI leader’s action is not at all surprising. CPM, DYFI and SFI have always made efforts to belittle and desecrate the values of national importance. They do not leave any stone unturned in this regard. The Aluva incident is the latest among them.
