More news of attacks, against those who protest against the much-publicised Nava Kerala Sadas of CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), which is described as the Cabinet on wheels, have been reported. Now, Congress MLA Eldhose Kunnappilly and Municipal Chairman Biju John Jacob are attacked by alleged DYFI workers.
The latest incident has been reported from Perumbavoor, Ernakulam district. A Youth Congress worker was attacked by DYFI workers while protesting against Nava Kerala Sadas in Perumbavoor. Since he was injured in the attack, he was taken to a nearby hospital by a band of Youth Congressmen led by Eldos Kunnappalli, MLA. A group of DYFI people chased them and attacked the MLA and Perumbavoor Municipal Chairman Biju John Jacob in the hospital premises. MLA’s driver was also attacked when he tried to save MLA. They were attacked in the hospital premises, not when they were waving the black flags.
A serious incident was reported from Kannur on November 21. There, protesting Youth Congress workers were attacked by DYFI men with helmets, iron rods and plant pots. They sustained serious injuries in their head, and one of them reportedly suffered hearing loss. But, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan came out with a justification for the DYFI attack. He said DYFI workers undertook ‘rescue operations’ to save the Youth Congressmen who jumped in front of the car as a ‘suicide squad’. He congratulated the DYFI men for ‘saving’ the Youth Congressmen from suicide. He asked the people to continue the same in the days to come. In other words, it was a call for attacks against the protesters who waved a black flag to the Nava Kerala Sadas.
LoP and Congress leader V D Satheesan alleged that MLA’s driver was assaulted by about 60 people and his nasal bridge is broken.
In the meantime, Police have registered a case against workers of KSU, the Kerala chapter of pro-Congress NSUI, for allegedly hurling shoes at the Cabinet’s vehicle in Perumbavoor. And, they are charged under IPC Article 308, attempt to murder! But, Perumbavoor Judicial Magistrate Court reportedly wondered how the hurling of shoes could be construed as an attempt to murder. The Court said that all should be equal before the law. It was an obvious reference to the non-registration of cases against the culprits who attacked Congressmen, including MLA. It says, Police have the duty to save not only the ministers, but, also the common people.
In fact, IPC 308 against hurling the shoes has turned into a laughing stock in the State. They say, the Police ignore the rules and try to please their political masters, even at the cost of their own credibility.
