On December 1, tragedy struck as Fousiya, a 20-year-old nursing student, was discovered lifeless in a hotel room on CLC Works Road in Chromepet, Chennai. The unfortunate incident involved her 20-year-old boyfriend, Ashiq, who is accused of strangling her to death. Shockingly, Ashiq shared a distressing image of Fousiya’s lifeless body on his Whatsapp status. The ill-fated couple had checked into the hotel around 10:30 am.

Fousiya, a second-year nursing student at Balaji Medical College in Chrompet, hailed from Kerala’s Kollam district and resided in a girls’ hostel in New Colony. Strikingly, she had been absent from her college classes for the past three days. The police revealed that Fousiya had been in a relationship with Ashiq for the last five years.

On Friday morning, the couple secured a room in a Chromepet hotel. Later that evening, Aashiq shared a chilling image of Fousiya’s lifeless body as his WhatsApp status, as stated by the police. Mutual friends of Fousiya and Ashiq who saw the disturbing status promptly notified the authorities. Subsequently, the police rushed to the location and initiated efforts to apprehend the accused. After scrutinizing CCTV footage, they located Ashiq near an eatery and promptly placed him under arrest.

According to law enforcement, the couple had a heated argument stemming from Ashiq’s alleged infidelity, as Fousiya had discovered pictures of him with another woman on his phone. The dispute escalated, leading to Ashiq assaulting and ultimately strangling Fousiya with a T-shirt. It has been disclosed that the duo had a clandestine marriage during their adolescence and even had a child. However, they opted for adoption in Chikmagalur.

Allegedly, the couple separated two years ago when Fousia discovered her partner’s involvement with several other women. She lodged a complaint with the Kerala police, resulting in his booking under the Pocso Act and subsequent imprisonment. Following his release, he apologised, and the couple reconciled. Despite the history, accused Ashiq continued to visit her regularly.

Simultaneously, Fousiya’s remains were transported to Chromepet government hospital for a postmortem examination. The police are currently probing whether the accused harbored any additional motives for committing the crime.
