Tripura CM Manik Saha calls for holistic development for indigenous communities

Agartala: In a pivotal meeting held on November 27, AK Mishra, retired IPS and Adviser (Northeast) of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), joined forces with Chief Minister of Tripura Prof Dr Manik Saha to strategize and chart comprehensive plans for the upliftment of indigenous communities in Tripura.

The high-level discussions focused on crucial aspects such as government budget allocation, educational initiatives, and overall development, with a specific emphasis on areas densely populated by indigenous communities. CM Saha highlighted the need for a collaborative approach, underlining the importance of understanding and addressing the challenges faced by these communities.

In a bid to ensure a holistic perspective, CM Saha urged AK Mishra to actively engage with representatives from various indigenous communities. Mishra was also encouraged to establish connections with leaders from the indigenous wings of all political parties and student organisations. The objective is to provide Mishra with a profound understanding of the diverse challenges faced by these communities.

CM Saha, in a subsequent statement, expressed optimism that, regardless of backgrounds, all communities in Tripura would stand united for development. He stressed the significance of resolving differences through constructive discussions, showcasing a commitment to inclusive and harmonious development in the region.

This collaborative effort between AK Mishra and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reflect a dedicated initiative to address the unique needs of indigenous communities, signalling a positive step towards fostering development and unity in Tripura.

On the other hand a crucial discussion between Tipra Motha and A.K. Mishra, commenced on November 28 at the AD Nagar Police Line. The meeting, saw the presence of prominent figures, including the former chairman of Tipra Motha, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, Leader of Opposition Animesh Debbarma, indigenous leaders, and other notable figures such as MLA Brishaketu Debbarma and former minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia.

The arrival of AK Mishra in Agartala on Monday afternoon marked the initiation of these crucial talks, with a warm reception led by Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the royal scion of the state and former chairman of Tipra Motha.

After the meeting Debbarma asserted that their position had been clearly communicated with the union government representative.

Highlighting the historical grievances faced by the indigenous people of Tripura, Debbarma urged the Government of India to address these issues promptly. He emphasised the pressing need for equal representation and justice, underlining the importance of acknowledging and rectifying past injustices.

As Tipra Motha stands firm on its demand, the ball is now in the court of the Centre to respond and take necessary actions to address the concerns raised during the meeting. The deliberations mark a crucial moment in the ongoing dialogue between Tipra Motha and the government, shaping the trajectory of discussions surrounding the aspirations of the people of Tripura.

It should be mentioned that the formation and objectives of Tipra Motha, a political party based in the State of Tripura, is to create a separate TipraLand out of Tripura. It has gained prominence for its advocacy of indigenous rights and representation. The party was formed with the aim of addressing the concerns and aspirations of the indigenous communities in the region by danding a separate tribal state. Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, a key figure in Tipra Motha, has played a pivotal role in shaping the party’s agenda. As the former chairman and royal scion, his involvement underscores the party’s commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of the indigenous population.
