In a shocking incident that unfolded in Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, a group of Muslim students, along with others, attacked students of RB High School of Chittarpur, Rajrappa after the latter protested against regular harassment and eve teasing of the school girls on Friday, November 24.

The horrific development occurred when students of the RB High School were returning to their homes when they were confronted by the goons, who attacked them with sticks and stones, injuring around two dozen of them.

According to the details, a few local Islamist youths were harassing the girls of the high school for some time, which the school administration was also aware of. Though the administration failed to act against the goons, the students themselves protested against the harassment. However, their protest did not go well with the miscreants, who, along with a mob, attacked and thrashed them on the afternoon of November 24.

As per the eyewitnesses, the attack occurred around 3 p.m. in the afternoon, and astonishingly, the perpetrators were also accompanied by a few senior men. Following the assault, the victim’s students, along with their guardians/parents then reached the Rajrappa police station and raised slogans against the police. The victim students then filed a complaint against the main perpetrators, including Farhan, Rehman, Zishan, Javed and others.

According to a few media reports, the attackers also asked the students to raise certain religious slogans and threatened them for consequences if they did not comply with their demands. Speaking with the media the victim student alleged that they had a scuffle with a few Muslim students over harassment of the girls a day before the incident, after which the miscreants with a large number of locals launched a well planned attack on them. It’s been reported that the attackers also pelted stones on the girl student looking to find a safe shelter.

In a video posted on the X the victim student can be heard saying that a few youths used to pass vulgar comments on our sisters, when we confronted them and asked them not to do such things, a small scuffle took place at school. However on the 24th those goons along with their family members attacked and beat us.

Opposition slammed Soren government

The incident sparked a huge outrage among the locals, who also received support from the former Chief Minister Babu Lal Marandi. Taking to twitter Marandi wrote that the incident of planned harassment and stone pelting on the girl student by Muslim youths is astonishing. What was their fault? Only that they belong to the Hindu Community?

The state has Hemant’s government who supports miscreants and brutality. Now the girls are even afraid of going to school. What kind of Jharkhand this government wants to build, they should clear it, tweeted Marandi further.

Another senior Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), leader and Member of Parliament (MP) Jayant Sinha while taking to twitter said that the incident of harassment with the girl students is extremely unfortunate. Nobody including the girls are safe under the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) -Congress government where these incidents are common.

NCPCR seeks report

Meanwhile, taking cognizance in the case, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chairman Priyank Kanoongo has also sought a report from Ramgarh Deputy Commissioner in 3 days. The commission has also directed the commissioner to file an FIR under relevant sections into the matter and submit its report in the given timeframe.
