Amid the ongoing debate over ban on Halal-certified products imposed by the Uttar Pradesh government, the union minister of development and panchayati raj, Giriraj Singh in a letter to Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked for a similar ban on Halal certified products in the state of Bihar as well.

In the letter to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Giriraj Singh asserted that many food items and essential goods, including dry fruits, cosmetics, sweets, oil, salt and medical equipment with Halal certification, are being supplied in the market. However, such items are only bound to be certified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The union minister has further alleged that Islamic corporatisation of items alien to Islam are also being carried out under Halal business module, and a few self-styled organisations are certifying the products of companies after securing large sums of money from them.

The BJP lawmaker from Bihar further hailed that in a secular country like Bharat, the Halal business module is not only against the constitution, but it is also an anti-national practise. He further emphasised the possibility of a larger conspiracy behind the Halal certification business and asserted that the size of the Halal economy globally is around 2 trillion dollars, and its association with terrorist activities has also surfaced, which needs to be thoroughly investigated.

Further, the BJP MP from Begusarai, while hailing the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government’s decision to impose a ban on Halal-certified products, asserted that the UP government’s decision has effectively restrained the conspiracy of the destructive forces and similar ban should be imposed in Bihar as well.

In the end, while citing a thorough investigation and ban on the Halal business module, the union minister has reminded us that during the BJP-supported government led by Kumar, the priority was Rule of Law which has deteriorated rapidly in recent years.

Earlier in a video message, the union minister from Bihar also alleged that, in the name of ‘Halal certification’, open Islamization of Bharat’s market is being promoted. The BJP lawmaker has also alleged that the erstwhile Congress governments and anti-national forces such as Tukde Tukde gang have nourished and promoted these Halal-certified products due to their vote bank policy. The union home minister further alleged that this is much like the ‘Jizya Tax’ and if not stopped immediately, it will ultimately pave the way for a sharia-based law in the state of Bihar.

Ban on Halal certified products in Uttar Pradesh

It is to be noted that earlier, the Yogi Adityanath-led government of Uttar Pradesh had imposed an immediate ban on the sale of Halal-certified products in the state on Saturday, November 18.
In the official order the UP government on Saturday, citing public health concerns, it encompasses the production, storage, distribution, and sale of Halal-certified products.

The ban was announced after Lucknow police registered a case on complaint of a resident of Motijheel colony of the city against several organisations accused of exploiting religious sentiments to boost sales through the issuance of forged Halal certificates. Many notable companies, including the Halal Council of India, Jamiat Ulema Hind Halal Trust, Halal India private Limited, are implicated in the case.

The complaint alleged that these entities issued Halal certificates for vegetarian products such as tooth pastes, honey, oil e.t.c where such certification is unnecessary, suggesting a deliberate criminal conspiracy targeting a specific community and its products. The complaint also raises concerns about the potential involvement of anti-social and anti-national elements benefiting from this unfair advantage.
