On October 24, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Satish Poonia, attacked Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi ahead of her visit to Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan asking when the women in the state will have security and honour.

Poonia claimed that the people of Rajasthan are asking if she actually is fighting for the women rape victims in the state.

“Last time when she came to Niwai, she violated the model code of conduct of elections and insulted the post of Prime Minister, by making false statements. Rajasthan’s public is asking Priyanka Gandhi if she has only said that ‘Ladki hu, lad sakti hun’ then is she fighting for the women victims of rape in Rajasthan? She should answer on when will the women of Rajasthan get honour and security?” Poonia said while speaking to ANI in Jaipur.

Earlier, BJP candidate from Vidhyadhar Nagar and MP Diya Kumari slammed Priyanka Gandhi over her visit to the state ahead of the assembly polls and said, “I would like to question Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, why is she visiting Rajasthan now that the elections have started.”

The BJP leader also raised questions on Priyanka Gandhi’s whereabouts when women in the state were subject to alleged atrocities.

“There have been several incidents of women atrocities in Rajasthan, as a woman leader from the Congress party, where have you been for the last five years? Whenever any incident of women atrocity happened in Rajasthan, did you visit them, did you even try to meet the victim’s family? Not at all, atrocities against women are at an all-time high, and law and order have become zero in Rajasthan. Why did you not show up before the elections?” said Diya Kumari.

“Priyanka Gandhi Vadra comes to visit Ranthambore for a family holiday but whenever there are incidents of women’s atrocities happening here, she is nowhere to be seen. She says “Ladki hoon, lad sakti hoon”, aren’t the women of Rajasthan humans?”, she added.

Priyanka Gandhi is on a Rajasthan tour to give a boost to the party’s campaign for the Assembly elections in the state.

The state of Rajasthan will go to polls on November 25. The counting of votes for the 200-seat Rajasthan Assembly, along with those for four other poll-bound states, has been scheduled for December 3.

Congress emerged as the largest single party in the 2018 Assembly polls, with 101 seats, and formed the government with the support of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with the announcement of poll dates. The elections to five states are crucial as they are being held months before the Lok Sabha elections in April-May next year.
