Manipur: NIA arrest Md Noor Hussain from Assam in scorpio IED blast case

Imphal: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested one person in connection with a bomb blast that took place in Manipur in June this year.

An accused has been arrested by NIA in a joint operation with Assam police from Silchar, Cachar District (Assam) in the Kwakta Scorpio Bomb Blast Case on October 16. In a statement, the top investigation agency said, “In an intelligence-based joint operation with Assam Police, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Md. Noor Hussain S/o Late Md. Babu R/o Kwakta Ward No. 08, Bishnupur, Manipur, from Silchar, Cachar District, Assam in a case related to a bomb blast at Kwakta, Bishnupur District, Manipur, in a Scorpio vehicle.

The case was initially registered by Manipur Police, vide FIR no. 635(6)2023 dated 21.06.2023 at PGCI Police Station, Sub Division Moirang, Bishnupur District, Manipur and later re-registered by the NIA on 23.06.2023 at Imphal. NIA Investigations in RC 01/2023/NIA/IMP revealed the involvement of Md. Noor Hussain in the bomb blast that took place on June 21, 2023 in an IED laden Scorpio vehicle parked over a bridge located the area of Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Kwakta along Tiddim road in Bishnupur District, Manipur. Three persons were injured and the bridge, alongwith nearby houses, got damaged as a result of the bomb blast. Further Investigations in the case are in progress.”

It should be mentioned that, at Kwakta in Bishnupur district in Manipur, a Mahindra Scorpio car was blasted using high power IED that was parked on the road. Eyewitnesses informed security personnel that the blast happened within minutes of the driver exiting the vehicle after parking it at a culvert on the main road around 7.15 pm 21 June 2023.
