Violence engulfed Barot Village of Magrahat, South 24 Parganas District, as scores of Hindu houses were attacked by Muslim miscreants of Trinamool Congress with the help of the Police administration.

Unabated vandalism at the residences of peaceful, innocent people forced them to flee their homes for the sake of their lives and the safety of their children. The vandals, emboldened by the apathy of Magrahat PS OC Abdus Samad Ansari, went berserk as they were assured of Police inaction. The victims are even complaining that there might have been incitement by a section of the Police, which resulted in the mindless violence unleashed by Muslim hooligans under the indulgence of the ruling party. Their apprehension is not unfounded as the Police, instead of nabbing the perpetrators, are taking action against the victims. In fact, all male members in Barot Village left their residences to avoid Police arrest as Police lodged FIRs against more than 200 unnamed persons for the violence. The village is populated by the majority of scheduled caste people.

The villagers of Barot protested the rape of a minor Hindu Girl, Brishti Mondal (7-8 yrs- name changed), daughter of a poor labourer by one Zahoor Sardar (57 yrs) in his garden house at the end of the Barot village near Radhanagar railway station next to the canal bridge. This Zahoor Sardar is the brother of Haroon Sardar, who was the Panchayat Pradhan of TMC in the last term.

As per the source, the incident of rape took place on September 30 in the afternoon (2.00-2.30 pm). The accused and his elder brother did not allow the incident to be spread out and threatened the victim’s family with dire consequences if the matter was leaked anyway.

Later, when the girl became very sick and bleeding started profusely on October 5, she was taken to the nearby health centre. As the on-duty doctor and ASHA worker informed the matter at Magrahat Police station, Zahoor Sardar was arrested by the Police without delay.

The enraged villagers attacked the house of enraged villagers and demanded compensation and expenditure for the treatment of the victim girl belonging to a very poor SC family.

But, under pressure from the local TMC party and its notorious leader, Selim Molla, Police raided the Barot village and unleashed violent attacks on the peaceful villagers and its female members with the help of Muslim goons sent by Selim Molla. The level of vandalism crossed all levels of apprehension.

Frightening the Hindu villagers, the Magrahat Police and Muslim leadership of the locality are trying to ‘suppress the case of ‘rape’ in order to ‘release the rapist Zahoor Sardar’ as told by the victim villagers. Accordingly, they are sending the Muslim goons to attack the villagers of Barot at night time.

The female members of Barot village today assembled in front of the local TMC MLA (Magrahat East-SC) Namita Saha’s residence demanding justice.

Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of Opposition (LOP), urged Chief Secretary of WB H K Dwivedi and the DG of WB Police Manoj Malaviya ‘to initiate firm action in order to contain the violence’ and to save the ‘innocent people who are being subjected to unnecessary harassment just before the commencement of the biggest festival’, Durga Puja to ‘maintaining social harmony’.
