In a shocking case that unfolded in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, last week, a daughter called the police to take action against a man who was luring her parents to Islam. The woman alleged that one Mridul Shrivastava, who recently became Hamil-Ul has been forcing her parents to convert, they are now shifting towards Islam and will soon become Muslims.
The woman did not stop there, as she also accused her parents of offering Namaz and leaving Hindu Dharma. She added she is also being forced to follow Islamic practice by her mother, father, brother and sister-in-law.
The woman gave a written complaint at the Thakurganj police station of the Lucknow district. Considering it a family matter the police did not register an FIR and talked to her parents.
Balaganj outpost in charge Ranvijay Singh, who is probing the matter, says that both parties have reached an agreement on performing religious rituals of their own free will. On getting information about this matter, Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha spokesperson Shishir Chaturvedi himself reached the police station and demanded a detailed investigation into the matter.
The woman, resident of Balaganj Rastoginagar, has written in her complaint that she lived at home with her parents and brother-sister-in-law. After coming in contact with Mridul Srivastava alias Hamid-Ul of the area, there were changes in their behaviour. Hamid-Ul is converting people from Hindu Dharma to Islam.
The woman alleged that he misled her family and got them converted to Islam. Due to this, they now leave the puja and offer namaz at home.
She added, that Qawwali is performed at home. They also pressured her to convert to Islam. She was scolded after protesting. Once, to save herself, she locked herself in a room and had to dial 112 to call the police. After this, the matter calmed down.
The woman said in her complaint that, “after some time, my parents hatched a conspiracy and coaxed me and sent me to a rented house away from home. We are getting the upstairs room prepared for you, will keep you together as soon as it is made, they said. When she was not called back home even after many days, they set the condition of converting to Islam and offering namaz in front of her. When he refused, she was thrown out of the house”.
On September 5, police started an investigation on the complaint of the victim regarding religious conversion. Around 2 pm on September 6, the victim reached the police station along with two lawyers. Then the victim’s parents were called. The lawyers repeated all the allegations written in the complaint by the woman. She also accused her parents of usurping Rs 50,000 and other items received from her husband at the time of divorce.
On this the victim’s mother refused to accept the allegations about money. At the same time, in the name of religious conversion, she said that everyone is allowed to follow their own faith.
“Along with going to the Mosque, we also started praying at home. For this, separate arrangements have been made at home along with the temple,” she added.
After this, the police asked both the parties to compromise by calling it a family matter.
Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha spokesperson Shishir Chaturvedi said, “The name Mridul Srivastava alias Hamidul has come to my notice. This person conducts qawwali at places every Thursday. Celebrates Urs every year. Hindus gather here. A daughter also came to me with a complaint.”
Shishir further said that according to the girl, her parents put pressure on her to accept Islam. They threaten not to enter the house if she do not accept Islam.
He added, “My demand from the government and administration is that an investigation should be conducted against Mridul Srivastava.”
