The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against an inspector in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for demanding a bribe from a shop owner and forcing him to install G20 logo at his own expense.

As per the complaint, the inspector namely Irfan Ali, who was posted at the Lajpat Nagar office of MCD, demanded a bribe from the complainant Dinesh Kumar.

As per the first report information, complainant Dinesh Kumar, who has been running a shop for the last 13-14 years was threatened by the inspector when he refused to give a bribe to the officer.

“In August 2023, one inspector Irfan Ali posted at Lajpat Nagar office of MCD came to the complainant and demanded some documents related to the said shop from the complainant, which were provided by the complainant. After that the MCD inspector Irfan Ali demanded some bribe amount from the complainant but the complainant didn’t provide any bribe amount to the inspector on which he threatened the complainant,” the complaint said.

It further added the complainant received a call from the inspector who told him that there was an order to demolish his shop and if the complainant wanted to save it then he had to give some money to the inspector and install a banner of G20 at his shop.

“After that the complainant installed a G20 banner with his own expenses and requested some time for arranging the bribe amount,” the FIR said.

“On August 25, MCD closed the shop and the inspector again called the complainant and directed him to bring documents of the shop otherwise the complainant would be in trouble. On September 4, the inspector came to the complainant’s shop and told him that there was an order to demolish his shop if he wanted to save his shop then he had to give Rs 1.5 lakh to the inspector,” it added. The complainant then approached the CBI with a complaint against the inspector.

“During the investigation, the allegations were verified, and a case has been registered against the inspector,” the CBI official said.
