The state of religious minorities in countries outside India is vulnerable. From being targeted for expressing their religious beliefs to abductions and forced conversions, the Hindus are facing it all. In one such incident reported the other day, a Hindu woman was gang-raped in Bangladesh’s Pirojpur district. Out of the four named accused, the police have arrested the prime accused, identified as Mohammad Imran. Others are still absconding.

As per the reports, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has issued a press note relating to the incident that happened on August 24. In the press note the RAB informed that a 26-year-old woman, Tumpa Roy booked amotorcycle for her own purposes, the man who came with the bike was Imran (30). Instead of taking her to the destination, Imran took her to the outskirts where he raped her.

After this he also called three of his friends. Within 30 minutes, other accused Muhammad Sohag Mir(34), Amin Khan(40) and Muhammad Rakib Shikdar(25) reached there. They repeatedly gang-raped the Hindu woman. Then, they left the woman there, bleeding.

Locals found the woman after hearing her screams and took her to the hospital. The victim was a Hindu woman who later lodged a complaint at Pirojpur Sadar Police Station. A case was opened against the accused based on the complaint by the police under various sections of the Bangladesh Penal Code, including the 2000 Woman and Child Protection Act. Later, RAB-8 was given control of the inquiry. Notably, RAB is the top division of the Bangladesh Police, and they are given only the most serious cases.

RAB-8 detained the primary suspect, Muhammad Imran, 30, of Barishal, on August 26. He was subsequently turned over to the Pirojpur Police. Still running are others.
