The cybercrime unit of the Nuh Police announced on August 24, that Osama alias Pehelwan, who was reportedly involved in the violence in Nuh, had been detained. After a shootout with the police close to the Ujjina Canal drain, the suspect was apprehended. During the gunfight, the cops shot the accused in the leg. Osama, a patient at Nalhar Medical Hospital, is a resident of Ferozepur village.

The shootout allegedly occurred as the accused Osama was making his way from the Ferozepur Namak neighbourhood in Nuh to Aali Meo. In connection with his alleged involvement in the Nalhar arson incident, the police were looking for the suspect.

Police have seized a zip gun (desi katta), a live cartridge and a motorcycle from Osama’s possession.

Notably, following a shootout, Aamir, another suspect in the July 31 anti-Hindu rioting in Nuh, was captured. The police team returned fire after the accused opened fire at them. Aamir was treated at the Nalhar Medical Hospital for a gunshot wound to his right leg. Aamir is a native of the Nuh village of Dhidara in Taoru.

Two suspects were previously detained after similar shootouts. After a gunfight, the Haryana police detained Munsaid and Saikul. After violence was unleashed on thousands of Hindu pilgrims attending the Jalabhishek Yatra on Shravan Somvar on July 31, the pair took cover in the Aravalli Hills in Haryana’s Nuh.

According to the police, five more suspects were detained in the case from Singar village after several villagers handed over the suspects to the law enforcement officials on August 21st. Afzal from Firozpur Jhirka was detained on August 12 by the Haryana Police team and Special Task Force for posting provocative films and audio on social media and messaging platforms.

In connection with the Nuh violence, which later expanded to Gurgaon and resulted in six deaths in the state, as many as 61 FIRs have been lodged and 285 people have been arrested.

Nuh Violence

On July 31, an Islamist mob pelted stones at a Hindu religious procession in Haryana’s Nuh district. The devotees gathered to attend the procession, which covered temples in the district. Many media reports have revealed that the attack was pre-planned, as the locals were angry over a cow vigilante joining the procession. The other trigger point is assumed to be the state government’s action against cow smugglers.

It is noteworthy that while searching documents relating to the violence, Organiser accessed as many as fifteen FIRs where the victims revealed the horrors of the day. Some said attackers were chanting Pakistan Zindabad and Allah Hu Akbar slogans.

The preparations

As per the media reports, from July 21 to 23, miscreants held meetings in parts of the city to prepare for the attack. WhatsApp groups were formed to coordinate, people were designated leaders and assigned responsibilities, and stones were gathered and assembled.

The attackers also collected glass bottles of cold drinks and fuel to use them as petrol bombs. More than 200 motorcycles were marked for use, and their number plates were painted black so that they would not be identified by police in any footage.

Ahead of the procession, Islamists took shelter in the hills with weapons and stones. These miscreants stayed there the whole night near the Nalhar temple, the focal point of the procession.
