The cases of false identity traps intending to convert the latter are at an all-time high. In a recent case, one Chhotu Mewati alias Rahul and accomplice abducted a minor Hindu girl on August 20. Following the abduction, the family registered a complaint and then the minor was recovered by the police. The case has been reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district.

How the minor left home?

On August 20, 17-year-old Keerti Verma (name changed, surname retained) left her house around 3 am. The minor prepared tea for the family on August 19 and after drinking it, everyone fell asleep, even the dog did not wake up. AT around 1 am, all the CCTV footage installed in the house stopped working and then Keerti left home.

The family woke up late in the morning as it was Sunday and after waking up they found the doors of the house were open, the Almira was also broken, and Keerti had taken jewellery and Rs 5,000 cash from the house before leaving.

Family registered a missing person’s report

A First Information Report (number–388/2023) in this case was registered at the Shahganj police station of Agra district on August 20. The complainant, the victim’s father Rajeev Verma informed the police about her daughter going missing. After a little investigation, the family found that Keerti has left home with one Rahul alias Chhotu Mewati, a native of Mewati Colony, Agra.

The police registered the complaint under sections 366 (Kidnapping) and 363 (Punishment for kidnapping) of the IPC.

The victim’s family lives in the Alipur Kesar Vihar area of Agra, whereas the accused lives in the Adam Tehrir area of the Mewati Gali, near the collectorate, Agra.

What says the police?

Station in-charge Inspector Bhanupratap Singh told Organiser, that prima facie, this looks as a case of grooming and abducting a minor. Based on the family’s statement, a case has been registered under the section of kidnapping. The girl has been recovered from the Tajganj area. The search is on for the accused, Chhotu Mewati. Two cases of assault have been registered against him in the past as well.

As of now, the victim is undergoing dedicated medical tests, and she recorded her statement in front of the magistrate. Based on her statement, further sections will be imposed against the accused. Notably, two men have been detained by the police in relation to this abduction.

What says the family?

Organiser called the victim’s father, Rajiv Verma, on August 22, while he was not in a state to talk, his brother-in-law, Ravi Verma, spoke with this correspondent.

Ravi said, Keerti was recording her statement inside and she is willing to come home. Currently, Keerti was studying in Class 10 and her elder brother helped her father in business.

Rajiv runs a jewellery shop and is a Sunar by profession. His shop is in his house only.

Ravi said Keerti did all of this under the influence of a man named Chhotu Mewati, who is yet to be arrested by the police. Chhotu had posed as a Hindu man, Rahul to lure Keerti.

He added, the duo met through the social media application Instagram.

As of now, the police arrested two men identified as Suraj and Raja. He said the prime accused Chhotu Mewati and another boy are missing. When the police first tracked them, their location was revealed in Punjab’s Ludhiana, however, when the police started detaining their family members, the boys returned to Agra.

What says Mewati’s social media handle?

Organiser also checked the Instagram profile of the accused, where he has posted pictures with multiple women. His handle name is ‘Ali Boy’, in some of the clips he can be seen consuming hookah and other stuff.

In one such video he claims, if people will not start respecting the ‘Miya Bhai’s’ again, then the Muslims will have to take the throne back and rule as their ancestors did.

What says the Hindu activists

Brajkshetra Yuva Morcha head, Gaurav Rajawat says that Chhotu Mewati is a repeated offender. He is also involved in illegal activities. Two cases have already been registered against Chhotu Mewati at the police station in Shahganj. Many people, like Chhotu Mewati, have created fake IDs in the name of Hindus on Facebook and Instagram.

He told that Chhotu Mewati had earlier trapped two Hindu girls. Due to the fear of poverty and slander, the family members did not file a complaint against him, so the morale of such people remains boosted.
