Aizawl: The War On Drugs continues in full swing in Mizoram. The state police on August 16 intercepted a suspiciously moving vehicle in the Serchhip district. Upon search of the car, the Police team seized 548.15 grams (39 soap boxes) of heroin and 5.32 Kg (50,000 tablets) of Methamphetamine from the illegal possession of two drug peddlers. They were arrested and have been identified as Md Ekbal Hussain (21) s/o Mujibur Rahman and Sayad Uddin (27) s/o Abdul Halim of Dasgram, Karimganj District, Assam.

A case under section 21(c)/22(c)/29/25 NDPS Act was registered at North Vanlaiphai PS for further investigation on forward/ backward linkages.

Earlier on August 12, Assam Rifles Battalion, along with Excise and Narcotics squad, seized heroin worth Rs 1,28,00,000 and apprehended two people in connection with the matter in Aizawl. The heroin was kept in 22 soap cases which were seized by the Assam Rifles and Narcotics squad.

Mizoram police on August 16 morning successfully conducted another seizure of Narcotics. Acting on input received by Aizawl District Special Branch (DSB) team, recovered and seized 2.330 Kgs of Methamphetamine from the possession of Sourabh Nath (34) s/o Ardhendu Nath and MD Nur Ahmed (39) s/o Abdul Kalam of North Tripura at Dawrpui New Market Area, Aizawl. A case under section 22 (c) of the NDPS Act registered at Aizawl PS for further investigation on forward/ backward linkages.

Last week a joint operation conducted by Mizoram police and the Assam Rifles team successfully seized Narcotics and arrested two international drug smugglers, including one woman. Special Narcotic police station and 2nd Assam Rifles, Aizawl team, while conducting a joint operation within the area of Hlimen, Aizawl, recovered and seized 256 grams of heroin from the illegal possession of Vanzalala (35) and Lalthanmawii (42), both of Chhipchang, Myanmar. A case under section 21(c)/29 NDPS Act and r/w 14A Foreigners Act registered at Special Narcotic PS for further investigation.
