The shameful incident came to light when the minor orphan girl got impregnated. The victim minor went to Arabic teacher Ashif Sheikh’s (24 years) home for two months to learn Arabic. But Ashif Sheikh raped her for two months and threatened not to tell anyone about the heinous crime. The minor victim was an orphan, and she could not tell about the crime to her relatives out of fear and disgrace. But the crime came to light after the minor girl got impregnated. After the crime of the Arabic teacher came to light, relatives of the victim approached Nikhil Bharat Mahila Samiti. Members of the Samiti took the victim and her relatives to Dhubri Sadar police station. A case (310/23) was filed under section u/a 376 IPC registered and R/w sec 4 of the POCSO Act against Ashif Sheikh alias Dipu.

Police conducted medical examinations of the minor victim on August 8 after the case was registered. But the accused Arabic teacher has been absconding since August 8. After conducting raids in several places, Dhubri police activated its informer network to trace the absconding accused. On August 11, based on specific information, Dhubri police conducted a raid in the Beguntali area under Gauripur police station and arrested Ashif Sheikh alias Dipu in the early hours of Thursday night. Locals in Vidyapara Bhatigaon demand severe punishment for the rapist.
