GUWAHATI: The influx from Bangladesh is not ending as of now. Hundreds of Bangladeshi infiltrators are entering India every month illegally through the Northeast borders and spreading across the country. 27 Bangladeshi infiltrators were arrested by Assam police on 16th September night while trying to travel to different parts of the country.
Based on specific intelligence, Guwahati city police border division conducted a raid on the railway station on 16th September. 12 suspected Bangladeshi infiltrators were apprehended by the city police from Guwahati railway station. They were taken to the Paltanbazar police station. In the preliminary investigation the spearheaded infiltrators revealed that they were Bangladeshi nationals and entered India through Meghalaya border. They were arrested subsequently. City police border division DCP Kulendra Deka said that the group were from Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. They came to zero point near the border in a bus and entered India through the Dawki border in Meghalaya. The group crossed the hill terrain in the Dawki by walking several kilometers. Then they reached Guwahati by small passenger vehicles. The group divided in two and planned to travel to different parts of the country. Based on the input provided by the group arrested in Guwahati, GRP arrested 15 Bangladeshi infiltrators in Bongaigaon railway station. The group was travelling through Jammu Tawi Express from Guwahati railway station. GRP intercepted them and subsequently arrested them in Bongaigaon. The group includes 11 women and 4 children and 11 men.
Police sources said that local touts helped the Bangladeshi group enter India and obtain forged documents to travel and stay in the country. All the adults in both the groups have fake Aadhar cards using which they bought railway tickets. The group arrested from the Jammu Tawi Express was travelling to Jammu where they were promised labour jobs by the touts. The group which was arrested in Guwahati railway station was planning to travel to Bangalore but before that they were arrested. Assam police revealed that they will initiate the deportation of the arrested infiltrators to Bangladesh soon.
Meanwhile Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma informed through his X post that 12 Bangladeshi infiltrators were pushed back by police from the border. He wrote, “Monitoring their movement, Assam police prevented the illegal entry of 12 infiltrators from the international borders to Assam- securing our State from the threat of demographic invasion.”
