The Haryana government is in action mode following the Anti-Hindu riots in Nuh, leaving as many as six dead. The cops are tracking the accused, identified miscreants are getting arrested, demolition drives for the illegal houses are going on and much more. Meanwhile, the state’s Home Minister, Anil Vij has ordered a probe into the ‘Pre-Planned’ claims in violence by the police officers. He said this after the video of a cop went viral where he alleged that the state had information about the attack beforehand.
Taking note of the viral video, Vij has ordered a probe into the matter, wherein the inspector of CID claimed that he had shared the input about the recent violence with the top officials well in time.
The Minister clarified that he did not have any prior information about a possible build-up of communal tensions that ensued in the state and Nuh, the epicentre of clashes, on July 31.
Referring to the official’s viral claim on Nuh violence, the Haryana Home Minister said, “I was not shared any intelligence input on (Nuh violence). I even asked ACS (Home) and DGP, they said they also didn’t have the information. Now, a video is going viral in which a CID inspector claimed that he knew everything in advance. If he knew, then who did he inform about this?”
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh on August 4, Vij said, “There is a big game plan behind this. People climbed hills next to the temples, had lathis in their hands and gathered at entry points, all this is not possible without a proper plan. Bullets were fire, some people had arranged weapons as well,”
“We will not rush to an early conclusion without a thorough investigation being done. Internet services will be restored after the situation improves,” added Vij.
What did the CID say?
As per the reports, a probe has been ordered against the claims made by CID inspector Vishwajit. The officer claimed that he had alerted the state about the possible clash between the Hindu and the Muslim side as the procession was scheduled in Haryana’s Nuh.
While interacting with the media, Vishwajit even said that he was aware that members of the religious procession would resort to sloganeering and would take out swords.
Upon being asked if the “specific information” was handed out to the Haryana government, he said, “We give everything to the government.” He also said that the information on possible communal tensions was given to the government some ten days back.
Nuh Violence
On July 31, a Muslim mob pelted stones on a peaceful religious procession organised by Hindus in the Nuh district of Haryana (a part of Mewat). The visuals from the site reveal how Hindus were forced to seek refuge at local temples and police stations as Islamists pelted stones, opened fire, set vehicles ablaze, looted shops, targeted police stations, and vandalised other public property. Within a day of this horrific attack, the rioters started expanding the region as they started attacking people and properties in neighbouring Gurugram.
The police action
According to media reports, about 150 shanties have been razed in Nuh in the last three days as part of action against the suspects. Officials said several youths from these localities were suspected to be involved the recent violence.
The state government has so far lodged 102 FIRs and over 200 suspects have been arrested.
“A total of 102 FIRs have been registered. 202 people have been arrested and 80 are in preventive detention. We will run bulldozers as and when require,” said Vij.
The toll in the violence that broke out between two groups stood at 6, including 2 police homeguards, while another 88 were injured, police informed further.
The Home Minister’s appeal
The Home Minister informed further, “I would urge one and all to maintain peace and harmony. State police personnel and central paramilitary forces are deployed in adequate numbers to ensure peace. The situation is under control.”
“I would also request people to refrain from posting any offensive or inflammatory content on social media. We have formed an inquiry committee, which is keeping an eye on each and every activity on social media. The matter is being investigated thoroughly,” Vij added.
