Visuals of the brutal murder where a brother beheaded his own sister and carried her head on the streets sent shock waves throughout the country The incident was reported in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district on July 21. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Riyaz, who has been arrested by the police.

As per the details, the accused Riyaz (24) had a dispute with his sister Ashifa Bano, who had a love affair with a man from her own community and caste, Mohammad Chand Babu. Riyaz was totally against the alliance, and hence he chopped her head with a sharp weapon following a heated argument.

Riyaz did not stop here, as videos of him walking on streets carrying the chopped head of his sister went viral. The heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Mithwara village, under the jurisdiction of Fatehpur police station. As per the villagers, Riyaz was walking towards the Fatehpur police station. As soon as the police received the information, they arrested the accused.

The video can be seen here:

Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh: The man in video is Riyaz, in his hand he is holding his sister, Ashifa's head. Riyaz was angry over her affair with Mohd Chand (same religion, same caste).

As of now, @Barabankipolice arrested Riyaz.

It is pertinent to mention here that, on June 23, Ashifa and Chand eloped together. They did it because their family was against it. Following the elopement, Ashifa’s father, Abdul Rashid, filed a case of kidnapping and abduction against Chand at the Fatehpur police station.

Later on, the police recovered the duo and sent Chand to jail.

While Chand is still in Jail, Riyaz had an altercation with his sister over her alleged affair with Chand. Following the argument, he picked up a sharp weapon and chopped off her head.

The Barabnaki police shared an official statement relating to the case. “In Mithwara village, a 24-year-old man named Riyaz beheaded his sister. She was in a relationship with a man of the same community from her village. She had eloped with her lover. The girl’s father had also filed a complaint in this regard. Due to anger, Riyaz beheaded the girl. The police reached the village and arrested the accused”, Ashutosh Mishra, additional superintendent of police (ASP-North) said.

This is not the only case where honor killing has happened within the Islamic community. Back in November 2022, a similar case was reported from the Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh. However, that case dealt with the deep-rooted caste system in Islam.

As per this report by SwarjyaMag, Mehzabin, a mother of three (from an upper Sayed caste), eloped with Arif (from a lower Fakir caste). Following their elopement, Mehzabin’s brother Mursaleen, along with his brothers and cousins named Mozzamil, Armaan, Muntazir and Shahnawaz, killed the duo.

They did so, saying, “How can we Syeds give our daughter to a Faqir?”.

For a little background, Sayed considers them upper caste, either those who moved from foreign land to India or those who converted from the upper caste Hindus. On the other hand, the Fakir caste comprises people who are converts from the Hindu ‘sadhu’ community, that is, those who were traditionally mendicant.

Well, in the recent case from Barabanki, the caste of the victim and the accused is not revealed, and it can be more of a case of past enmity. Organiser will update this report as soon as the details come up.

We also tried calling the Station House officer in Fatehpur, but the calls went unanswered. As a matter of fact, if the woman was a major, the police cannot send Chand to jail. This detail will also be updated in the story as soon as the police answer the call.

Another shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj was reported on July 20. An ISIS (terror outfit) inspired youth, Arif chopped his mother and sister and seriously injured his father. He did so using an ax to do so. When the police asked him what he wanted, he said, “Maut ka Manzar”.

Arif’s elder brother, Mohammad Azam, who managed to save himself, reportedly said that the former held radical views. “Arif held radical views. He was shouting ‘Allah hu Akbar’ while killing his mother and sister,” Mohammad Azam, brother of the accused said. A video doing the rounds on social media shows Arif walking on the balcony with a black flag.
