One of the most inhuman cases have come to the fore where the parents of a new born put him in a garbage bag and threw it in the dustbin in the Lebanese city of Tripoli. However, it seems that a dog was more human than the parents as a stray dog fetched the bag out of the garbage and that helped a passerby to rescue the crying baby.

A canine has proven to be the best friend of humans once again. A newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a trash bag that was being carried by a stray dog in Lebanon’s northern city of Tripoli on Wednesday, local media reports said, leading to a nationwide outrage over the incident. Tripoli, just 81 km north of the national capital Beirut, is the largest city in northern Lebanon and the second-largest city in the country.

Several Lebanese and international news websites have reported this shocker with photographs of the infant. Ghassan Rifi, a journalist in Tripoli, questioned the intentions of the person who abandoned the baby, writing online in Arabic (translated here for the readers’ benefit), “It was not known whether the ‘wild lady’ who threw the child and fled to an unknown destination had intended to throw her in the area so that the dogs would finish her off and eat her corpse or to draw attention to her.”

“But in all cases, the dog that dragged her was more humane in the face of the brutality and criminality of the one who threw her.”

There has been all-around condemnation and shock expressed over the incident of abandonment of the infant and many citizens have even offered to adopt her, after photos of the baby with bruises on her face and body went viral.

According to reports, a passerby heard the infant’s cries emerging from a black plastic garbage bag that a dog was seen dragging near the municipality building in Tripoli. Thankfully, the pedestrian took the bag from the dog and rescued the baby girl, who had survived the harsh conditions and was still alive and breathing.

Most reports say that the baby was reportedly only a few hours old at the time she was found, while some reports say that the baby seems a few weeks or months old. The responsible citizen and saviour of the child took her to the Islamic Hospital before the newborn was transferred to Tripoli Government Hospital for further medical attention. The baby’s condition has been said to be serious, but stable and a police probe is underway.

Recently another case shocked the Lebanese people. In a case of domestic abduction and rape, a six-year-old girl died in Tripoli after being raped repeatedly by her grandfather. That crime had left the city shocked and now this news of the baby abandoned in a trash bin has rendered another shock.
