It seems that the tiff between Delhi LG VK Saxena and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is unlikely to end as once again daggers have been drawn between both of them. In a recent move, Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena has put into the dock the Kejriwal Government after he terminated the services of 400 “specialists” who were appointed by the Kejriwal Government in various departments.

The decision was taken by LG Saxena’s office after it was found that those who were appointed did not meet the academic and work eligibility criteria that were mentioned in the advertisements for the recruitment of the posts.

Delhi Govt failed to do proper verification of appointed persons

The Delhi LG office issued a statement in which it clearly mentioned that the decision to terminate the services of 400 employees was taken after it was found that no verification of work experience certificates was done by the administrative departments. Moreover, it was found that the work experience certificates that were submitted by those who the Kejriwal Government appointed were found to be fake.

Delhi Govt did not seek approval from the LG for appointments

The statement issued from the LG office stated that the Women and Child Development and Industries Department and Environment, Archaeology, Delhi Archives had not taken permission from the recognised authority before appointing the “specialists” in various departments.

Scrutiny Exposes Irregularities in appointments made by Delhi Govt

In the wake of the scrutiny done by the Delhi Government, it was found that 13 Boards and the autonomous bodies which had appointed 155 persons had not followed due process as they had not taken permission from them. The Services Department too was not aware about the engagements of 187 persons in Delhi Assembly Research Centre (DARC), Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi (DDCD) and Department of Planning.

After Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party leaders hit back at LG Saxena for obstructing the working of the government, Saxena cited the Cabinet note pertaining to the Chief Minister Urban Leader Fellowship Programme, under which 36 fellows and 14 associate fellows were engaged and it was done after due approval by the competent authority in 2018 and in 2021.

In the past also, LG Saxena and Kejriwal had locked horns after the latter accused Saxena for not implementing the decision of the Supreme Court Constitution Bench regarding services. Kejriwal had alleged that the Government was resorting to “unconstitutional brazenness and intimidation”.
