A video has gone viral on social media, showcasing Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s posters in Madhya Pradesh with upside down tricolour placed over her feet. In the video, a man can be heard saying “Watch. The tricolour in the feet of mass leader Priyanka Gandhi, that too upside down,” while riding on a two-wheeler.
The other person sitting on the two-wheeler laughs and says, “You want to see more, here it is,” pointing out the string of Priyanka Gandhi posters on the road. The man replies, “On Boudi Ghat Road,” taking a pause and then stating, “How would people who cannot understand the tricolour, understand the country.” The video concludes with the man saying, “See this, see this,” while pointing out at another Priyanka Gandhi poster.
Maj Gen (retd) Harsha Kakar (@kakar_harsha) tweeted, “There are no comments from me. These are from a common Indian. @INCIndia @RahulGandhi @priyankagandhi please listen and act. There has to be legal action taken for this intentional error,” while attaching the video.
A Twitter user Pallavi Baruah (@25rubybaruah) replied to the thread, “Omg….this is the reality of Congress party.” While another Twitter user AD Shah (@ADShah30) replied, “They’ve their priorities sorted out. After all “that” vote is what they’re after.”
However, this is not the first incident wherein the grand old party insulted the national flag even today. The videos from Priyanka Gandhi’s rally in Madhya Pradesh have gone viral, showcasing the national flag laying on the ground alongside Congress’s posters and hoardings.
State Media Co-Head for Gujarat BJP, Zubin Ashara (@zubinashara), tweeted, “Indian tricolour getting insulted at the rally of @priyankagandhi! But then what else can you expect from @INCIndia for whom only one family matters and they never learnt to respect our nation?” along with two videos from the rally.
In 2023, disqualified Congress MP, Rahul Gandhi, unfurled the national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar during the last leg of his Bharat Jodo Yatra; however, it stirred controversy as Rahul Gandhi’s cut-out placed behind the national flag was taller than the flag.
Furthermore, Congress leader Rajkumar Raju put the national flag on deceased gangster Atiq Ahmed’s grave in a viral video over social media. The Congress leader also demanded a Bharat Ratna for the gangster. The leader was reportedly expelled from the party later. In the video, he blamed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the murder of Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed, calling the killed gangster “shaheed” or martyr. He also demanded Yogi Adityanath’s resignation.
He also raised slogans of “Atiq Ahmed amar rahe,” meaning “long live Atiq Ahmed.” It is to be noted that Indian Tricolour is placed over the soldiers who have attained martyrdom or people conferred with State honour. He was the candidate of the Congress party from Ward Number 43, South Malaka, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
A Twitter user Ninda Turtle (@NindaTurtles) tweeted, “Congress councilor candidate Rajkumar raised slogans of Atiq Ahmed Amar Rahe. Also said Bharat Ratna dilaunga He also laid down National flag on his grave. @Uppolice this is an insult to the national flag. Please take action against him.”
In 2020, the incumbent Dy Chief Minister of Karnataka DK Shivakumar claimed that the country won independence because of the Congress and that the tricolour is the Congress’ flag. He said, “The country won independence only because of Congress’s struggle. The flag of the freedom movement itself is that of the Congress. The Indian tricolour is the Congress flag,” while addressing a motley crowd of Congress workers at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office in Bengaluru, on the occasion of Independence Day.
In 2019, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor tweeted an image from a meeting in his study. In Tharoor’s study, there were two national flags; while the one hoisted behind him was positioned upright, the other flag on his desk was upside down.
