Crime against minors is rising every day, especially those pertaining to sexual abuse. In a recent case from the Lucknow district of Uttar Pradesh, meat seller Umar Qureshi raped an eight-year-old for more than six months, impregnated her and later forced her to get an abortion done, so that he can get away with the crime.

The accused threatened the victim and raped her for more than six months. After impregnating her he compelled her to get an abortion done in a private hospital.

The incident has been reported in the Amethi village of the Gosaiganj block of the Lucknow district of Uttar Pradesh on May 21. The victim went to the private hospital with Qureshi and after the abortion, her health deteriorated. By the time she reached home she had a lot of blood loss, when her parents confronted her, she spilled the beans.

The 8-year-old girl told her parents that six months ago, Umar Qureshi took her to his house by offering her chocolates, where he sexually assaulted her. After that incident, he regularly started calling her home and raping her. When she protested he threatened to kill her.

Qureshi who is a meat vendor would show his butcher knife to the minor, she was feared by the accused and hence adhere to his demands. Notably, Qureshi has been doing this for almost six months now. After learning about the pregnancy he rushed to the hospital and managed to take the procedure.

After finding the truth, the victim’s family reached the police for help. An FIR has been registered against Qureshi at Gosaiganj police station.

As the victim was a minor, the state administration came into action, as per the reports, on the orders of Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak, and the police sealed the nursing home where the abortion was done. An FIR was also filed against the hospital authorities.

The investigations revealed that the hospital is involved in such illegal activities for years now. Also, they do not have the registration or any other documents. When the authorities raided the hospital after the incident, they discovered several women who had undergone similar abortions. As of now, the hospital has been sealed.
