Kuldeep Kumar, alias Deep Kamboj, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politician from Punjab, and three other people were arrested by Rajasthan Police on May 19 for allegedly raping a lady in Sri Ganganagar. In 2022, he contested in Punjab assembly polls on the ticket of AAP from Abohar.

According to the officials, the case has been registered at the woman’s police station in Sri Ganganagar against Deep Kamboj and his relatives Vijay Kamboj, Smile Kamboj, and Aman Kamboj. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC): 376(2)(n) (repeatedly raping the same woman), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354(g) (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).

The officials related to this case said that Fazilka police have also opened an investigation into the accusations made by the woman and the AAP leader against one another.

The woman claimed in a police station complaint in Sri Ganganagar that on December 14 2022, she went to Kamboj at the party headquarters in Abohar to ask for his assistance with a fake case that had been brought against her and her family.

The woman alleged that “Deep Kamboj asked me to accompany him in his vehicle so that he can understand the case”. Then the AAP politician allegedly took her to a hotel in Sri Ganganagar, where he raped her. When she resisted, he allegedly threatened her with serious repercussions, according to the complaint.

The woman alleged that 10 days ago, along with Vijay, Smile, and Aman, Kamboj called her again back to his office in Abohar and threatened to post her objectionable images and videos on social media.

The complainant underwent medical testing on May 16 and discovered she was pregnant. She raised this issue to Kamboj, and he allegedly called her at Abohar.

The woman alleged in her complaint that the AAP leader and his staff aides served her a cold beverage that was spiked with drugs, which caused her to miscarry.

Kamboj claimed he was a victim of a honeytrap when contacted. He used social media as well to refute the woman’s accusations. The AAP leader stated, “the woman was extorting money from me and when I refused, she filed a false case against me”. However, he acknowledged that he had been in contact with the woman for the past few months.

The woman and Kamboj have each filed complaints against the other, according to Fazilka SSP Avneet Kaur added, “a probe has been marked to DSP (investigation) and further action will be taken as per the law”.
