In Maharashtra’s Shrirampur a Hindu man was brutally assaulted by an Islamic mob in an Urs procession on May 17. The victim has been identified as Mahesh Mukund Shahane. He told the police that the Islamists attacked him for just being a part of a Hindu Organisation.

A First Information Report (number–467/2023) was registered at the Shrirampur police station of the Ahmednagar district on May 18 by the victim Mahesh. The accused on the other hand have been identified as Samir Pathan, Shoaib Qureshi and Javed Shah, as per the FIR.

In his complaint, Mahesh told the police that, he works as a lab assistant at the Prabhat Dairy. On May 17, the day of the attack, he was at his own house only as it was his week off. The same day, he went to Renuka Travels owned be his friend Shivraj Shrikrishna Lavar in front of the bus stand after having dinner at about 9 pm. By 10 pm he left the place and started moving towards his house.

By the time he reached near Sayyad Baba, there was a heavy rush because of Urs. He was driving his vehicle slowly when Samir stopped him and said, he wants to have a word with him.

Soon he put his hand around Mahesh’s neck and then Javed and Shoaib came in. All of them attacked him brutally near the railway line. He knows all of them, they were attacking him with the intention to kill, however, he managed to escape and reached his friend’s house who admitted him to the Sakhar Kamgar Hospital.

“They hit me on my head with the intention to kill me. I got scared and called one of my friends for help. I was then rescued and taken to the hospital,” he said.

A picture of the victim man and a clip from the procession was shared by the Twitter handle Legal Rights Observatory on May 16.

The caption says, ” Mahesh Mukund Shahane attacked by Samir Pathan, Shoaib Qureshi, Javed Shah during Urs, PI refused to register FIR; as always @NagarPolice failed to enforce noise pollution rules post 10 PM surrendering to Jihadi terror.”

As per the local activists, Mahesh is associated with a local Hindu organization and is active in exposing anti-Islamic activities going on in the city. He also has exposed several Love Jihad cases in the recent past. Moreover, he also is active on social media and is known for making pro-Hindu reels.

The Islamists who attacked him had grudges due to this. At the time when the trio attacked him, Mahesh had no idea why they were beating him up. Mahesh has been witnessing death threats for a long time now for his anti-Islamic views on social media.

As per a report by OpIndia, On May 17, the accused men were in large numbers as they were celebrating Urs. Mahesh happened to pass by the Urs and finding him alone they attacked him, “They trapped him and tried to kill him. He would have lost his life had he not called his friend for help that day,” said an activist.

Mahesh told OpIndia that he knows all the accused very well, he made these remarks while he was still admitted to the hospital, “They didn’t tell me any reason and just kept on beating me that night. I still don’t know what my fault is,” he said.

Notably, the injuries faced by Mahesh are so intense, he said, the doctors have advised him to stay at the hospital for the next three days. Notably, none of the accused named in the FIR has been arrested by the police.

Assistant Police Inspector (API), Vitthal Patil who is investigating the case did not share a single detail about the investigation calling it a sensitive case. However, based on the FIR all the accused have been booked under IPC sections 307 (attempt to Murder), 34 (acts done by several people with common intention) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the IPC.
