A divisional committee member of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) surrendered before the police in the Karimganj district of Telangana on May 12. The surrendered Maoist cadre was also said to be the press in charge of the Telangana state committee of the criminal Maoist outfit.
The surrendered Maoist has been identified as Nerella Jyothi alias Jyothakka (38), a resident of Konaraopet block of Rajanna-Sircilla district of Telangana; she has been active in the Maoist outfit for almost two decades and carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakhs, confirmed Telangana police.
During her tenure with the extremist outfit, she had been assigned to many significant positions, including as a member of the press committee during her stay in Odisha; besides working in Telangana, she has operated in the Maoist-affected regions of Chhattisgarh and Odisha as well.
As per the reports, the surrender took place before the police commissioner of Karimganj, Subbarayudu, who, while briefing the media, quoted that “Jyothi has been annoyed by the ill treatment of the women cadres in the outlawed outfit and was also vexed by the Maoist barbaric ideology thus she decided to shunned the path of violence and surrender.”
The police commissioner further asserted that ‘Jyothi was also moved by the various welfare schemes being run by the police towards the surrendered Maoists and shall be provided all the possible assistance under the rehabilitation policy.’
Two wanted Maoist to surrender in Bihar
In a similar kind of development in Bihar, two seasoned Maoist cadres of the People’s Liberation Guerilla Army, an armed wing of the proscribed CPI (Maoist), laid down their weapons before the Gaya police on May 12.
The surrendered Maoists have been identified as Pradeep Singh Bhokta alias Neeraj, a resident of Langurahi village under Madanpur police station limits and Umesh alias Dinesh Bhuiya who is a resident of Bikopur village under Kothi police station limits of Aurangabad. The surrender took place before the SSP Gaya, Ashish Bharti and other paramilitary officials, where the Maoist also surrendered a 303 gun, a submachine gun, and several rounds of ammunition.
It’s been learnt that as many as 11 cases have been pending against Pradeep Singh Bhokta under different police stations of Gaya and Aurangabad, including of murder of a CRPF sub-Inspector Raushan Kumar who got martyred in an Improvised Electronic Device (IED) explosion in February 2019, it’s been reported that both Bhokta and Bhuiyan were part of the Maoist party who planted and triggered the blast.
