“The whole country knows that after the victory of Trinamool Congress in the elections in West Bengal, there was a large-scale violence. Hundreds of Hindus were killed, and women were raped. During the period, the administration was collaborating with criminals. Instead of punishing the criminals, they harassed the victims,” said Vishva Hindu Parishad’s International Working President and senior advocate, Alok Kumar, while addressing a seminar titled ‘The Breakdown of Law and Order in West Bengal’.
Noting that West Bengal made exceptional contribution to education, literature, spirituality, science and revolution during the Bhakti period, Alok Kumar said, “From the land of West Bengal, many great personalities have been associated. Swami Vivekananda, Guru Ravindra Nath Tagore, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Maharishi Arvind, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, there is a long list of such great people. How such a great West Bengal became the land of Hindu atrocities? We need to brainstorm how the tragedy happened?,” said Alok Kumar.
“Justice is the base of every society. Justice has never been given priority in Bengal, which is the main reason behind the Bengal situation ”-Justice SN Dhingra, Former Judge Delhi HC
Going back in history to recount atrocities inflicted on Hindus in Bengal, VHP International Working President said, “On the orders of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Muslims in Bengal attacked Hindus. During that time, more than 5,016 Hindus were killed in Kolkata alone. After that, Muslims also tortured Hindus in Noakhali.”
Reminding Bengal Government of Its Responsibility
Explaining the reason for Bengal’s drastic downfall, Alok Kumar said, “West Bengal has lagged behind under 34 years of Communist rule and is now under Mamata Banerjee’s rule. Bengal, known for industry, is witnessing migration of industrialists under Mamata Banerjee’s Government. West Bengal is now counted among the poorest States of India.”
In his speech, VHP International Working President Alok also expressed concern over the track record of some members of Trinamool Congress. “Many members of Mamata Banerjee’s party have been jailed under serious charges and many have criminal cases registered against them. The goons of West Bengal had sided with her during the Communist Party Government and they are now under her Mamata Banerjee’s Government. Those people are siding with her.” Speaking about the violence unleashed on Hindus during Ram Navami, Alok Kumar said, “Violence takes place in West Bengal every year on the occasion of Ram Navami and other Hindu festivals. This year also violence took place, in which innocent Hindus were tortured. On the occasion of Ram Navami, the attack was carried out under a well-planned conspiracy, and an investigation found that a large number of stones, glass bottles, petrol bombs, bottles filled with acid and iron rods were collected on the roofs of the houses of Muslims. If the police was not aware of all the activities, then it was a big failure of the Mamata Banerjee Government. The responsibility of Government is to protect the people and not to harass them.”
“Even after the Ram Navami procession was allowed, the police did not save the Hindus during the violence, but locked victimised Hindus in jails.”-Dr Anirban Ganguly, Director SPMRF
He also said that Mamata Banerjee held a press conference regarding this incident. She expressed her sympathy towards the Muslims and said that Hindus had made a mistake by taking out their procession in the Muslim area. I want to ask if there are many temples on the roads, can Muslims be prohibited from passing in front of those temples? The Government land is a public road; if someone is peacefully taking out a yatra, why are stones being pelted on it? Our Hindu people are fighting the battle in Bengal and getting stronger. I hope the situation in Bengal will change within the coming ten years. Today is Mamata Banerjee’s rule; in the coming time, her rule will also end.”
Sardar Patel Was Better Choice Than Nehru
In the seminar, former Delhi High Court Judge Justice SN Dhingra said, “Violence in West Bengal will stop only when the Constitution is changed.” He said, “Justice is the base of every society. Justice has never been given priority in Bengal, which is the main reason behind the Bengal situation. We have become independent, but we have not got freedom yet, which means our own rule. We ousted the British, but made their slaves sit on the throne. Sardar Patel was to be made the Prime Minister of India in the Congress session as ninety per cent of the committees supported him. It is because even Congress knew that this country needs a nationalist person, who could strengthen the nationalist forces in the country. Still, due to Gandhi’s stubbornness, Nehru was made the Prime Minister. If Sardar Patel had become the Prime Minister, the country would have been much ahead today.” Pointing out that the Indian Constitution is the world’s longest Constitution, Dhingra said, “However, there is no element of Indianness and culture here.” On this occasion, Dr Anirban Ganguly, Director of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation, said, “Democracy is in danger in West Bengal. I come from West Bengal, and I have contested elections from there. After the election victory of TMC, there were many atrocities on Hindus, especially the Scheduled Castes community, which was not shown by leading media houses. Ganguly, further said, “Even after the Ram Navami procession was allowed, the police did not save the Hindus during the violence, but locked victimised Hindus in jails.” Speaking on the occasion, Nishant Kumar Azad of Organiser Weekly, said, “I have seen violence in West Bengal very closely. After Mamata’s victory in the elections, the goons deliberately targeted Hindu women.” He further said that ” Women were raped in West Bengal.
Many women told me about violence unleashed on them and being subjected to sexual harassment.” He said, “The mainstream media did not show the killing of Hindus after the elections in West Bengal and the atrocities on women and those who opposed TMC. All this came to the fore only through social media.” He further added that nothing has changed on ground zero even after two years of the heart-wrenching incidents.Apart from this, Bhavna Bajaj said, “I visited West Bengal to investigate the violence of Ram Navami. I had met many women and victims, and many of the victims had refused to publish their names. The victims said that if TMC people came to know about them, then they would be tortured again.” While observing May 3 as Black Day for Bengal, tributes were also paid to those killed in the Bengal violence.
