The Prime Minister has praised the Modern Rail Coach Factory (MCF) for setting a record manufacturing of 10,000 coaches since its inception that is in April 2023.

Taking it to Twitter the Ministery of Railways on May 4 informed about the feat applauding the record-breaking manufacturing by MCF in the month of April.

“Driven by excellence, Propelled by dedication! Modern Rail Coach Factory, Raebareli, a production unit of the Indian Railways, has set a new record by manufacturing 10,000 coaches in April 2023, since its inception,” the Ministry of Railways said in a tweet.

Responding to Rail Ministries’ remarkable achievement Prime Minister Modi said, “Wonderful! This is a part of the efforts to boost ‘Make in India’ and strengthen the railways sector”.

The Modern Coach Factory was inaugurated in 2012 and the first entirely in-house manufactured coach was turned out from the plant in August 2014.

Located in Lalganj, district Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh, the factory was planned with a total cost of Rs 3,192 crore and an annual production capacity of 1000 coaches.

Since then, MCF has almost doubled its production year by year, starting from 140 coaches in 2014-15, to 285 coaches in 2015-16, then 576 coaches in 2016-17 and first time achieving the given production target of 710 coaches by manufacturing 711 coaches in 2017-18.

In 2018-19, MCF prepared 1,425 coaches against a target of 1,422 coaches.

During the straining Covid-19 crisis and imposed lockdown the MCF produced as many as 1,920 coaches in 2019-20 and around 1,360 coaches during the peak Covid-19 crisis 2020-21.

Besides manufacturing stainless steel LHB coaches, MCF is also taking up new challenges of manufacturing modern-day coach designs, including train sets, metro coaches, aluminium body coaches, bullet train coaches, and high-speed coaches to meet upcoming demands.

MCF’s proximity to Lucknow has also allowed for easy transportation of the coaches to various parts of the country. With MCF’s remarkable growth, it is soon to become a major contributor to the Indian Railways’ passenger coach manufacturing capabilities and a crucial player in the country’s transportation infrastructure.
