Polling for the Karnataka assembly elections will begin on May 10 and before it the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to leave no stone unturned. The Prime Minister, Home Minister and other star leaders of the party are campaigning in the state for the upcoming elections. On May 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in the 36-kilometre mega-road show in Bengaluru. The roadshow will be held in two phases in Bengaluru Central and Bengaluru South Lok Sabha constituencies.
On May 3, BJP leader P C Mohan said at a press conference, “It was decided to move the roadshow to May 6 instead of May 8, which is a Monday. The prime minister told us that the roadshow on Monday will cause traffic problems for the public. We have held meetings with the police and concerned officials to plan the programme in such a way that it won’t affect the public,”
“Through our roadshow, we believe over 10 lakh people will take part and give their blessings to the Prime Minister,” Mohan added.
This roadshow will cover as many as 18 assembly constituencies.
The timeline of the roadshow
The first stretch
The first roadshow will stretch for 10.1 kilometres and will be held in Bengaluru Central from 10 am to 1 pm. The show will begin from the Suranjan Das Road as soon as PM Modi lands at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) and will pass through Mahadevapura, K R Puram, C V Raman Nagar, Shivajinagar, and Shanti Nagar Assembly constituencies.
The route to be followed: From Suranjan Das Road – New Thippasandra Road – 12th Main Road – ESI Hospital – Domlur – MG Road – War Memorial in Brigade Road.
The second stretch
The second roadshow will start from 4 pm to 10 pm in Bengaluru South. In this stretch, the show will cover 26.5 kilometres of area in the Banglore South, Bommanahalli, Jayanagar, Padmanabha Nagar, Basavanagudi, Chikpet, Chamarajpet, Gandhi Nagar, Mahalakshmi Layout, Vijaya Nagar, Govind Raj Nagar, Rajaji Nagar, and Malleshwaram Assembly constituencies.
The route to be followed: RBI Layout in JP Nagar – JP Nagar 24th Main Road – Jayanagar, Aurobindo Marg – Cool Joint (Bangalore High School) – Maiyas Restaurant – Karisandra – South End Circle – MN Krishna Rao Park – Nettakallappa Circle – NR Colony – Basavanagudi – Bugle Rock Park – Ramakrishna Ashram – Uma Theatre – TR Mills – Sirsi Circle – ETA Mall – Magadi Road (Mahalakshmi Layout, Vijayanagar, Govindaraja Nagar) – Basaveshwar Nagar – West of Chord Road – Shankar Mutt – Rajajinagar – Dr MC Modi Eye Hospital – Navarang Circle – Mahakavi Kuvempu Road – Sampige Road – Malleshwaram – Malleshwaram 18th Cross.
Ahead of this roadshow, the Prime Minister taking it to Twitter shared some of the achievements of Karnataka under the party rule. He wrote, “In a short while, I will be commencing the roadshow across parts of Bengaluru to interact with people of the city. The bond between Bengaluru and BJP is an old and strong one. This city has supported our party since the early days and we have made numerous efforts for its growth,”
“We are seeking the blessings of the people of Bengaluru based on our track record as well as a promise to build further on the gains achieved so far. It is our endeavour to make Karnataka the Number 1 state and also add unparalleled momentum to Bengaluru’s growth trajectory,” added PM Modi.

In the Tweets to follow there were achievements by the BJP government be it in the healthcare, housing and sanitation and other aspects of the governance. The key highlights of the achievements mentioned are:
- 3.11 lakh health cards have been issued under the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya scheme.
- Around 71,643 houses were built worth as much as Rs 21,896.5 crore under the Pradhanmantri Awas Scheme.
- Thousands of toilets were built under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
- Laid the foundation for the Bengaluru sub-urban railway worth Rs 15, 767 crores.
- Opened ‘state of art’ second terminal of the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Rs 5,000 crore.
- Constructed a second runway at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) worth Rs 3,000 crores.
- Inaugurated the Sir M Visvesvaraya railway terminal.
- Under the smart development for the region, the government brought Fix My Street an application to identify and repair potholes.
- Rs 100 crore was allocated for the Baiyappanahalli-Hosur doubling project and Rs 250 crore for the KR Puram-Whitefield project.
- The fifth stage of the Cauvery water scheme revived providing potable water to 50 lakh people of Bengaluru. With this 10,000 liters of water was supplied to 1.85 lakh families living in the slum areas.
- Under Raita Vidya scheme, scholarships worth Rs 725 crores were provided to more than 11 Lakh students of the state.
- Under Nekara Sammana scheme the government provided financial assistance to weavers.
The BJPs manifesto includes dedicated schemes and benefits for Bengaluru and the same was also shared by the PM. “Be it technology or transportation, we shall work on pioneering solutions that are in line with people’s expectations and those which reaffirm Bengaluru’s position as a global hub for tech and innovation,” wrote PM Modi.
After BJP announced its candidates for the election, on April 30–The PM visited Karnataka for two days and addressed three rallies in Kolar, Channapattna and Belur districts. Over the next 9 days, PM Modi is expected to hold around 20 rallies across the state till May 7, news agency ANI reported.
The BJP has announced 222 candidates for the elections to the 224-member Karnataka assembly slated to be held on May 10. The results will be declared on May 13. The party needs to cross the halfway mark of 113 in order to form the government in the state.
The ruling party had announced its first list of 189 candidates fielding 52 new faces and eight women candidates. While the BJP has fielded Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai from his traditional Shiggaon seat, former CM B S Yediyurappa’s son B Y Vijayendra will be contesting from his father’s Shikaripura constituency.
