Assam: Drugs being sold in shops in Muslim areas; Shopkeeper Sarfraj arrested, peddler Saddam Hussain shot by police

Guwahati: Wanted drugs peddler Saddam Hussain injured in police firing while trying to escape from police custody attacking a police personal in Nagaon district of Assam.

Based on source information, a drugs peddler was carrying a consignment of drugs in a pulsar motorcycle bearing Reg. No. AS12N 5260, which was to be delivered in the Gorumara area in Samaguri, a naka, was set up by a Nagaon police team on April 21.

The motorcycle mentioned above was signalled to stop by the police team, but on seeing the police personnel, the person tried to flee away. A chase was made, and the person, namely Saddam Hussain (32 years), was apprehended with eight soap boxes and six plastic containers containing 105 gm of Heroin duly seized from his possession. A Realme mobile handset and a motorcycle were also seized from the possession of the accused person.

Further, a house search was conducted at the house of Saddam Hussain, where a total of cash Rs. 25,150 was recovered and seized.

After the arrest of the accused, on interrogation, the accused person informed the police about a hidden drugs consignment located at Nizuri under the Missa police station. On the way to Nizuri, the arrested accused person requested to relieve himself, and the police team stopped the vehicle at Hatbagan. However, the arrested accused tried to flee from custody by attacking the police personnel and running away, taking advantage of the pouring rain and the darkness. To stop the accused person and to re-apprehend him, one blank round was fired, and when the accused person did not stop, a bullet was fired aiming below his waist, upon which the accused person fell. The accused was immediately rushed to Jakhalabandha Hospital and referred to Nagaon Medical College.

On the other hand, based on secret information, Morigaon police conducted a search operation on April 20 at the Grocery Shop of Md. Safraj Khan, located at Dandua near Dandua Hafizia Madrasa. During the search, 12 nos. of small plastic containers containing Heroin and two syringes were recovered inside the Shop. The owner of the Grocery Shop, Md Sarfaraz Khan, has been apprehended. On the same day, Morigaon police arrested another drug peddler, Md. Khairul Islam and his wife Musatt Anuwara Begum while selling Narcotics Drugs in their house premises.

On April 19, Morigaon police conducted raids on the rented house of Md. Emrajul Haque and recovered 50 nos. of plastic vials containing Heroin. The accused person has been apprehended, and further legal action has already been initiated.
