Kaliagunj area in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district became a battleground on April 21 following the alleged rape and murder of a teenage girl. The National Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken note of the incident and a fact-finding team will be dispatched to conduct an investigation. Police fire teargas shells and did lathi-charge on those demanding arrests of the accused.

The minor girl went missing on April 20 after she went for her tuition classes and could not be traced the entire night, despite extensive searches by her family members and local people.

Later, he said her body was found floating in the waters of a canal. Reports have claimed that one Javed Akhtar and his accomplice have raped in the minor girl.

New agency ANI reported, “Police fired tear gas shells and resorted to lathi-charge against protesters who were demonstrating over the alleged rape and murder of a girl in Kaliyaganj in North Dinajpur”

“Two people have been arrested based on the complaint given by the deceased’s family. Police had to use tear gas at the protesters to recover the victim’s body from them to ensure an early post-mortem so that important evidence is not lost. The incident will be properly investigated, said Superintendent of Police Raiganj, North Dinajpur”.

Notably, the NCPCR has taken note of the rape and murder. The chairperson Priyank Kanoongo told the media, “We have received the info about the alleged rape and murder of a girl in Kaliyaganj in North Dinajpur and we are going to investigate it. It is very saddening that we informed about this incident to the chief secretary of the state govt and the collector of North Dinajpur in the afternoon, but we have not received any reply yet. We are trying for justice for the girl”.

The girl, is a resident of Gangua village near saheb ghata in the district’s Paloibari area, and belongs to the Rajbongshi Community. As per the locals, the minor has allegedly been raped by Javed and four other Muslim boys, including a government official.

When police went to recover the girl’s body, the local people resisted demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

Tyres were burned and stones were thrown as residents protested the death of the girl. When police attempted to recover the body, an enraged mob clashed with them, and the RAF was called in to bring the situation under control.

Posting a video of locals guarding a body covered by a white sheet, the senior BJP leader also alleged that the police were busy in making security arrangements for the proposed trip of Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee to the district next month.

“Sorry state of Law & Order situation in WB as @WBPolice is busy with making security arrangements for ‘Bhaipo’s Nabajowar’. Unfortunately, the common people; especially women are paying the price. The perpetrators are getting emboldened due to the in to the inaction of the state government,” Adhikari said in another tweet.

In another video Adhikari said, “The @BJP4Bengal MLAs weren’t allowed to visit the victim’s family & were involuntarily taken to a Police Station & made to sit there forcefully, because how else would @WBPolice suppress information & dilute evidence. They’re dragging the victim’s body in such undignified manner”.

Are there 2 sets of rules for 'ex-AI'TC & @BJP4Bengal in WB?@WBPolice why did you allow Uttar Dinajpur TMC President Shri Kanaia Lal Agarwal to visit the victim's family in Kaliaganj but obstructed BJP MLAs Shri Satyendra Nath Ray (from Rajbongshi community) & Shri Budhrai Tudu? pic.twitter.com/bPJdw7qZHg
