A personnel of the Chhattisgarh police has been gravely injured in an Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) explosion that took place near Bangapal village of insurgency-hit Bijapur of Chhattisgarh on the morning of April 20.

As per the reports, a joint team of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) along with the District force were out on a routine area domination exercise in the Bangapal village area under Nelasnar police station limits of Bijapur when a personnel of the district police stepped over a pressure IED planted by the Maoist, triggering the explosion in which he was wounded gravely.

The explosion occurred around three kilometres from the Bangapal village when the joint team was looking to diffuse the pressure IEDs; the injured person has been identified as Sitaram Kudiyam of the district police; he has been referred to the state capital Raipur where he is being treated.

Confirming the incident, Dinesh Sahu, Head constable at Nelsanar police station said, “Jawan was badly injured in the explosion and sustained serious injury in one of his legs, he has been immediately taken to Raipur owing to his critical condition.”

It is to be noted that a similar kind of incident was also reported from the Bade Tungli village of the district on April 17 in which a personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) got injured.

Five IEDs recovered from Jharkhand

In another Maoist-related development, security forces seized as many as five IEDs in the Maoist-hit West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on April 19; the bomb disposal squad of the CRPF successfully diffused the recovered IEDs.

It’s been reported that a joint team of CRPF and district police were out on a combing operation during which a few IEDs were found to be buried near Maradiri village under Goilkera police station limits of West Singhbhum following which as many as four IEDs weighing around 2 kg each were recovered.

It is to be noted that the security forces have launched a massive anti-naxal operation in the earlier Maoist-dominated Kolhan region of the district since January in which at least four people have died, and more than a dozen personnel, including a few civilians, have been so far injured in IEDs explosions.
