Chhattisgarh: Maoist killed in encounter by Security forces in Bijapur, two held

Security forces have managed to neutralise an active cadre of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA), the armed wing of the proscribed Communist Party of India (Maoist), in an encounter in Bijapur of Chhattisgarh on April 18.

The development occurred when a team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on a routine area domination exercise from Reddi camp in the Named area of Bijapur, and it’s been learnt that when the team reached Kachlawari village under Named police station limits, a fierce encounter broke out between the forces and the Maoist in which a cadre of the outlawed outfit has been killed.

Reportedly as many as two cadres of the banned outfit have also been arrested from the spot once the exchange of fire between the forces and the Maoist stopped; it’s been learnt that one of the arrested Maoist sustained some injuries during the gunfight, in between the DRG team has also seized daily materials left by the Ultras on the spot.

Confirming the incident, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Anjanye Varshanaye said, “an encounter took place near Kachilwar village around 8 am on April 18 after which the body of a male Maoist has been recovered from the spot.”

“Two cadres of the Maoist outfit were also held from the spot once the gunfight stopped, one of them who is found to be injured has been shifted to the hospital”, added SP Bijapur.

Maoist held from Kozhikode

While in a separate development on the Maoist front, senior cadres of the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the proscribed CPI (Maoist), were arrested from a labour camp in Kozhikode of Kerala on April 18.

As per the reports, a team of the Kerala police arrested a senior Maoist cadre from a labourers camp in Pantheerankavu in Kozhikode on April 18.

Ajay Oraon

The arrested Maoist has been identified as Ajay Oraon, a senior cadre of the banned Maoist outfit PLFI; it’s been learnt that Oraon, a native of Jharkhand, has been residing in a rented accommodation for more than a month, he has been arrested by the Pantheerankavu police.

It’s been reported that Oraon has earlier served a jail term of at least 11 months and had earlier visited the southern states on a few occasions as well; it’s been learnt that on request of the Jharkhand police, he will soon be shifted to Jharkhand after legal proceedings.

It is to be noted that the security forces in Jharkhand have been running continuous combing operations in the state lately, which has ultimately led to the surrender or arrest of many notorious Maoist of the region while a few have been forced to migrate to other states to evade their arrests.
