Disastrous Political Acumen of Rahul Gandhi: Congress’ Chinese-spin on Taiwan Businessman over Adani issue backfired

Congress accused that the name of the 'Chinese' firm with which Adani group was linked is PMC projects and its owner is Chang Chien-Ting. The party added that Chung-Ting has been a director in Adani firms and a business partner of Gautam Adani's brother Vinod Adani

The Congress on April 6, accused the Adani Group of having business links with a Chinese company, claiming it may pose a threat to national security.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that a Chinese company was given contacts to build critical infrastructure projects. Quoting a report by an anti-Adani propaganda portal named Adani Watch, the disqualified Lok Sabha member asked, “Why are India’s critical ports, airstrips, railway tracks and electricity lines being built & controlled by a Chinese company?” Referring to an Adani group company PMC projects mentioned in the report, he said, “PMC Projects – ‘Pradhan Mantri Chinese’ Projects?”

He was lambasted for not knowing the difference between The People’s Republic of China and the Republic of China (Taiwan). Parroting the same stale tale is losing momentum. Even his own party members told to refrain himself from speaking on the Adani issue. What more evidence is required to view that Rahul Gandhi and his party’s cause is a goner.

Congress accused that the name of the ‘Chinese’ firm with which Adani group was linked is PMC projects and its owner is Chang Chien-Ting.

Chien-Ting is known as Morris Chang and is son of Chinese citizen Chang Chung Ting, the Congress alleged. The party added that Chung-Ting has been a director in Adani firms and a business partner of Gautam Adani’s brother Vinod Adani. Gandhi scion also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue.

But the claim by Adani Watch and Rahul Gandhi that PMC Projects is owned by a Chinese national is completely false, because Chang Chien-Ting is actually a Taiwanese national. Taiwan has friendly relations with India, and therefore, there is nothing wrong if a Taiwanese national on a valid visa works for an Indian company.

Interestingly, the Hindenburg report, which is the source of the Adani Watch article, mentions that Chang is Taiwanese, but they still called him Chinese.

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, in a press briefing, had claimed the company, fully owned by a Chinese national Chang Chian Ting, was a subcontractor for the Adani Group and is a partner of Adani’s brother.

She also asked the Modi Government to find the source of Rs 20,000 crore, which was allegedly deposited in “shell companies” of the Adani Group.

AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh said on Twitter, “Everyday the reason for the PM’s eloquent silence on Chinese is becoming evident. This is largely because of Adani’s intimate links to China. We had mentioned this first on March 3 in the ‘Hum Adanike Hain Kaun’ series and today there are further revelations.”

Opposition is one of the main pillars in democracy, to have divergences in a democracy is important, the question to what extent and degree? To have diverse opinions does not mean to lose rationality, which is clearly missing in the ‘vision’ of Congress.

This is another flop show by the opposition. This reeks of desperation for power and greed. The Congress is shamelessly supporting its leader Rahul Gandhi, without doing their homework on the issue. His lack of aptitude puts the unhinged dolts to shame!
