Complaint filed against Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu for wearing Maa Laxmi neckpiece with ‘revealing dress’

A complaint has been filed against Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu for hurting religious sentiments after she donned a necklace with Maa Laxmi’s necklace paired with a revealing set of clothing.

The ‘Badla’ actress had uploaded a picture and a video on March 14 from the ramp walk at Lakme Fashion Week held on March 12 in Mumbai. The religious organisation Hind Rakshak Sangathan has filed a charge against Tapsee Pannu for violating religious emotions and spreading obscenity.

The complaint was filed by Eklavya Singh Gaur, the convener of the Hind Rakshak Sangathan Indore and son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur.

Police said that they received a complaint from Eklavya Gaur against actress Taapsee Pannu for hurting religious sentiments and the image of the religion.

The complaint by Eklavya alleged that Tapsee Pannu wore a revealing outfit and a necklace with the image of Maa Laxmi during the ramp walk. “We received a complaint from Eklavya Gaur (son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur) against actor Tapsee Pannu for hurting religious sentiments and image of ‘Sanatan Dharma’ by wearing a locket having ‘Goddess Laxmi’ with a revealing dress during a ramp walk at Lakme Fashion Week held on March 12 in Mumbai. Action is being taken,” informed Kapil Sharma, SHO of Chhatri Pura Police Station.

Notably, this is not the first that Bollywood actors had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. Earlier in January this year, ‘Besharam Rang’, song from Shahrukh Khan’s Pathan movie had made controversial headlines.

In one of the scenes from the video, Deepika can be seen wearing a saffron bikini, and some people have interpreted that the ‘Besharam Rang’ in the lyrics refers to saffron, a colour long affiliated with Hinduism.
Last year in 2022, a police complaint was filed against Director Leena Manimekalai over a controversial poster of her new documentary. In the poster, Maa Kaali has been shown smoking a cigarette. It has sparked off a massive uproar on social media with demands to arrest the director trending on Twitter.

Saif Ali Khan starrer web series Tandav, which was released on Amazon Prime on January 15, 2022 also hurted the religious sentiments of Hindus. Tandav makers were accused of portraying Hindu gods as well as the Prime Minister of India in a bad light. Not only a police FIR was filed but the matter was also taken up at the ministerial level. The Amazon team was asked for an explanation by the I&B ministry. Apologies were sought and duly provided. The scenes hurting the sentiments of people were removed.
